In light of recent global events, demand for air travel has plummeted in a matter of weeks. But if you do want to book a trip, there are no shortage of excellent travel deals available right now!
There are currently cheap flights available around Australia, as well as to overseas destinations including Hawaii, North America, Cook Islands, New Zealand and Thailand! This article highlights some of the best current flight deals available from Australia.
Jetstar 1 Million Seats Sale
Jetstar currently has flights from Adelaide to Avalon (Melbourne’s second airport) for $31 one-way, or Brisbane to Uluru for $158 return – among many other domestic flight deals – in its 1 Million Seats Sale.
Jetstar also has some very cheap international flights on sale, such as Gold Coast-Wellington from $222 return, Melbourne-Bangkok from $379 return or Melbourne-Honolulu from $384 return.
This Jetstar sale ends on Tuesday 10 March 2020.
Air New Zealand deals to the Cook Islands
Air New Zealand operates direct flights once per week from Sydney to Rarotonga in the Cook Islands. Right now, you can book an Economy class seat on this route from just $495 return. Air New Zealand Premium Economy flights are available from $819 return, or you could fly Business class from $1,319 return.
The non-stop flight from Sydney to Rarotonga departs on Friday nights, returning to Sydney on Thursday afternoons. (As you’ll cross the international date line, this means arriving back in Australia on Friday.) The unique Boeing 777 service is one of several Air New Zealand fifth-freedom routes.
Eligible travel dates include flights until 27 March, 1 May-26 June and 28 August-30 October 2020. This Air New Zealand sale ends on 18 March 2020.
Economy class deals to North America
If you’re looking for flights to North America, there are also some great deals available right now. For example, you could fly with Fiji Airways from Sydney to Los Angeles from $786 return. Or, fly with Qantas or United from Sydney to San Francisco from $865 return.
Even flights from Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne to Calgary, Canada are being discounted. For example, you can fly from Sydney to Calgary with Air Canada for just $876 return. You’ll need to fly via Vancouver and San Francisco on the way there, and the flight home has a short stop in Vancouver.
This Air Canada sale ends on 9 March, and is available for travel any time until 17 June, from 10 July-10 September or between 29 September-27 November 2020. Note that Air Canada does not operate flights from Melbourne between April and October, so this deal is only available from Sydney or Brisbane during those months. You can book on the Air Canada website.
Business class deals to Hawaii
The popular Hawaiian Airlines Business class sale fares from Sydney and Brisbane to Honolulu are back too! Right now, you can book Business class tickets with Hawaiian Airlines from Sydney to Honolulu for $2,500 return, or Brisbane-Honolulu for $2,512 return. This new sale ends on Monday, 9 March 2020.
This Hawaiian Business class sale fare was previously only available for travel during March 2020. You still can fly in March, but the travel period has now been extended. You can also access this price if you depart Australia between 1 April and 31 May 2020. Beware that as these flights book into “D” class, you may not earn Velocity points or status credits.
These flights can be booked on the Hawaiian Airlines website.
You could even combine these sale fares with a cheap domestic First class ticket from Hawaii to mainland USA, and travel from Australia to the US west coast via Hawaii for under $4,000 return. For example, you could fly from Sydney to San Jose, California (with a stopover in Honolulu) for $3,954 return with Hawaiian Airlines.
i want to fly to USA mid January, when fares usually plummet. Went this year for $799 return but can’t see anything like these deals yet, which seems strange considering airlines forward bookings are apparently terrible. 10 of us want to give you our money. We are going. Don’t care about Corona. Yes I know, those fares are probably at cost, but there’s 10 seats airlines could fill now.
