Enjoy Iced Coffee in the Virgin & Qantas Lounges

Most Australian airport lounges offer hot barista-made coffee for that much-needed pick-me-up before your flight. But as a refreshing alternative to flat whites, cappuccinos and long blacks, did you know that some lounges also offer iced coffee?

It’s not advertised, but if you ask your barista nicely in the Virgin Australia Lounge or selected Qantas lounges, they can make you an iced latte or iced long black. Some Qantas domestic lounges also offer iced chocolates.

Unfortunately, the Qantas and Virgin Australia lounges don’t generally stock ice cream or whipped cream to spruce up your iced coffee. But if it’s a warm day or you just feel like a cool caffeinated beverage, it can really hit the spot.

Iced coffee is not available in all domestic Qantas lounges. For example, I recently asked in the Sydney Qantas Club if it was on the menu, and the barista just shook his head. But next door in the Business Lounge, the barista was happy to prepare me an iced long black with a dash of milk.

Here’s a list of domestic Qantas Club and Qantas Business Lounges that do offer iced coffee:

  • Sydney domestic Qantas Business Lounge
  • Melbourne Qantas Club
  • Melbourne domestic Qantas Business Lounge
  • Adelaide Qantas Club

If you’re visiting an eligible domestic Qantas lounge in Sydney, Melbourne or Adelaide, you can even pre-order an iced latte, iced long black or iced chocolate using the Skip app.

If you know of any other Qantas lounges that offer this, please let us know in the comments!

So, now you know – next time you feel like an iced coffee in the Virgin Australia Lounge or some Qantas lounges, all you need to do is ask!

I didn't realise that this was a big deal. It's actually easier for the staff, same espresso shot, over a few ice cubes, and cold un-steamed milk. Quicker and easier than a "normal" latte.

Iced chocolate would appeal to me more! Not the modern version which is 80% ice but the older form which is more an unfrothy milkshake with all the fixin's added.

Some coffee shops in Australia will charge you up to double for an iced latte - nothing fancy, just espresso on ice topped with milk.

So stupid.

I wouldn't order an "Iced Coffee" in Australia though, that has a historic meaning of one with cream/ice cream, sugar etc; in the US it's iced filtered coffee. If you just want ice, espresso and milk - iced latte is the term.

Yep in Melbourne on Sunday it was $10.90 for an ice coffee and $5 for a regular coffee.

As a side note I’ve had an ice coffee in the Brisbane Qantas Club and the Brisbane international lounge before.

The guy in line next to me at Perth QF club ordered an iced long black while I was in line reading this…he got one.

A go to and had at most lounges including LAX and SIN. If you like it sweet you need to tell them to add sugar before ice or milk as do not have sugar syrup.

An iced latte is the go to drink of anyone under 25 so they should indeed be available.
