Hot on the heels of the recent devaluation to its Singapore Airlines and Star Alliance award charts, KrisFlyer will increase the number of miles required to redeem for flights on Virgin Australia and all other partner airlines as well from 1 August 2022.
Award flight prices on non-Star Alliance airlines were initially spared from the latest devaluation to the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer program. But Singapore Airlines has now revealed that it will increase the cost of awards on these other partner airlines on the same day as the upcoming changes to KrisFlyer stopover rules come into effect.
This change will affect KrisFlyer redemptions on the following partner airlines:
- Alaska Airlines
- Virgin Atlantic
- Virgin Australia
- Vistara
- Juneyao Airlines
The good news is that these changes are relatively minor. For example, it currently costs 11,000 KrisFlyer miles in Economy or 21,000 miles in Business Class, one-way, to fly anywhere within the states of QLD, NSW, VIC, ACT, TAS and SA on Virgin Australia. From next month, this cost will increase to 12,000 miles in Economy or 23,500 miles in Business.

And this is the new award chart that will come into effect from 1 August 2022, as per the Singapore Airlines website:
The zones & destinations on KrisFlyer’s Virgin Australia award chart are not changing. The chart continues to include destinations that Virgin Australia no longer flies to such as Hong Kong, the United States and Papua New Guinea.
You can continue to book KrisFlyer awards for travel on Virgin Australia at the existing rate until 31 July 2022.
Virgin Australia is also making changes to the number of Velocity points required for Singapore Airlines flights and introducing carrier charges on Singapore Airlines redemptions from 5 October 2022.
