Most people prefer flights with short connections, but sometimes a long transit is necessary. One member will soon have an overnight layover at Singapore Airport, with their inbound flight from Melbourne arriving at midnight and their onward flight to Seoul departing at 8am the following morning. So, where is the best place to spend a night at Singapore’s Changi Airport?
Going to have an 8 hour stopover in Singapore arriving at 12:05am via SQ208 and leaving at 8:05am via SQ600, any good place to rest in the Airport beside the transit hotels? Looking to save the $100 if possible….
An obvious solution would be to book a room at the Aerotel Singpaore Transit Hotel. The hotel is located airside in Terminal 1, and is accessible to transit passengers from any of Singapore’s three terminals. As the hotel is located within the terminal complex, there is no need to clear immigration; passengers can simply head directly from their gate to the hotel. The hotel operates 24 hours per day and offers a swimming pool, gym, bar and library. Rooms are booked in six hour blocks.
A good few hours sleep and shower is worth the $100 – just book a transit room and relax without having to find a snooze couch because by midnight, they will be taken.
But for travellers looking to save a little money during your layover in Singapore, there are other options. There are many airline lounges available at Singapore Airport. If you don’t enjoy complimentary lounge access through your class of travel or frequent flyer membership, you can purchase access to many of the lounges at the door. While you may not get a proper bed, you would have access to showers, food and drinks.
Failing that, our members suggest looking for a place to relax in the upstairs area of the Changi Airport terminal.
There are many lounge chairs upstairs. Most are quiet. Grab some food from any of the eateries and a drink from the convenience store and enjoy in the lounge chairs and get some sleep.
One thing I do is walk around all 3 terminals. Lovely walk. Not many people around. I am there again in March on a short overnight transit.
Singapore’s Changi Airport is definitely one of the nicer airports to spend an extended amount of time in. But if you’d prefer to leave Singapore airport, the MRT train into town is fast, frequent and costs just a few dollars. Once in the city, there are plenty of hotels to choose from – or attractions to keep you occupied. However, the airport train does not operate between approximately midnight and 5am.
