Qantas Club Reopens in Rockhampton

Qantas will finally open its new lounge at Rockhampton Airport tomorrow (16 November 2022).

Located upstairs and offering tarmac views, the new Rockhampton Qantas Club has seating for up to 65 people and is around double the size of the previous lounge at the same airport. Seating options include high tables designed for working and there is high-speed wifi available.

Like at other Qantas regional lounges, snacks and drinks will be available. Australian beer and wine will also be offered in the afternoon.

The former Qantas Club in Rockhampton closed along with the rest of the lounge network in early 2020 due to COVID-19. During 2020, Rockhampton Airport was subsequently redeveloped and construction began on the new lounge.

I passed through Rockhampton Airport several times in 2021 and was informed each time that the lounge would open soon, but the local staff didn’t know when or why it was taking so long. Luckily for Rockhampton-based Qantas flyers, the wait is now over!

The lounge will be open one hour prior to each Qantas flight departure from Rockhampton Airport.

The Rockhampton Qantas Club was one of only two lounges in the airline’s domestic network not to have reopened yet after the pandemic. The other domestic lounge that hasn’t yet reopened, in Port Hedland, is also expected to open in the near future following a refurbishment.

Qantas announced in August that it will upgrade its lounges in Adelaide and Auckland next year.

This was closed due to airport construction works from 2020, but these were completed a while ago. When I flew out last July (2021), the staff said they thought it would reopen "within months" but didn't know.

As far as I know, it's still closed and I have no idea why. But perhaps you can let us know on Friday šŸ˜‰

That place was always a cultural experience. Occasionally someone would throw a six pack of xx_X in the fridge. And if you were the first one to arrive youā€™d often walk in on the baggage handlers lying on the lounge indulging in the Bega and Crackers packs.

From my husband who is currently in ROK:

No QF lounge at ROK, still in the process of building / fitting it out, I asked the guys here.

I guess it's been a rocky road to getting it built. šŸ˜‰

Opening in November, according to:

I'm now thinking of a status run there for the opening day, given my new membership year begins in November and no status extending from QF...
