Qantas Frequent Flyer members with status expiring between July and December 2022 are now being offered an additional 12-month extension.
This offer is available to Australian and New Zealand residents, who can activate it by booking at least one new eligible Qantas or international Jetstar flight. The booking must be made by the end of your current Qantas Frequent Flyer membership year, but the travel date can be any time until 31 December 2022.
Eligible Qantas Silver, Gold, Platinum and Platinum One frequent flyers who book an eligible flight will also be eligible for a status credit rollover.
This offer applies to Qantas Frequent Flyer members who live in Australia and New Zealand. Qantas will automatically extend the status of frequent flyers who live in other countries without the need to complete a flight.
Qantas previously announced a similar status extension offer in August 2021 for frequent flyers with status due to expire between January and June 2022. This offer is still there, and Qantas has just made a slight change to make it even easier for frequent flyers with status expiring between now and June 2022.
This is what the Qantas website now says regarding frequent flyers with status years ending up until June 2022:
Previously the booking had to be for travel before the end of June 2022, however Qantas understands that travel plans continue to be disrupted due to the pandemic and as a result we have extended the travel period until 31 December 2022.
Generous loyalty program status extensions will have to stop eventually. But with WA’s border still closed (although thankfully, for not much longer) and Qantas still operating a limited international network for now, this seems like the right thing to do at this point.
Recognising that travel is not yet back to normal, many other international airlines have also continued extending the status of their frequent flyers into 2022.
How to claim your Qantas status extension
If your Qantas Frequent Flyer status is due to expire between now and the end of 2022, you can get another complimentary 12-month status extension by booking an eligible new flight by the end of your current membership year, for travel any time until 31 December 2022.
If your membership year ends between now and June 2022, this booking could be made any time between 11 August 2021 (when the previous extension for these members was announced) and your current status expiry date. If your membership year ends between July and December, this new booking needs to be made between 28 February 2022 and the end of your current membership year.
For the purpose of this offer, eligible flights are:
- Any Qantas operated and marketed flight, or
- Any Jetstar international flight or Jetstar domestic flight within New Zealand which is eligible to earn Qantas points (you may need to purchase a Max or Plus bundle, and Jetstar flights within Australia do not count).
Qantas Classic Flight Reward tickets are included in this offer.
Status credit rollover
If you book an eligible flight as per the conditions listed above, you’ll also be able to get status credits earned during your current membership year rolled into next year, up to a certain limit:
- Platinum One: 1,800 status credits
- Platinum: 500 status credits
- Gold: 250 status credits
- Silver: 100 status credits
Status credits earned from flying or from partner offers (such as last year’s BP offer) are eligible to be rolled over to your next Qantas Frequent Flyer membership year, giving you a head-start towards maintaining your status in the following year. Status credits provided as a bonus or gift will not roll over.
The status credit rollover from this offer is in addition to any status credits you may be able to get rolled over as a Points Club Plus member.

Additional status support for members beyond January 2023
So far, Qantas has only promised extra status support until the end of this year. But the airline has not ruled out further support if it is needed.
Qantas currently says:
While our current support is for members with a status end date up to 31 December 2022, we are always looking at ways we can help support members during these challenging times. We will update members closer to the time if we extend our support further.
Qantas has been offering tier status extensions due to COVID-19 since March 2020.
Generally, Qantas Frequent Flyer’s response to COVID-19 so far has been reasonable and generous to its frequent flyers. The only real exception was a decision in 2020 not to recognise frequent flyers who would have reached a higher status tier if flights they had already booked prior to COVID-19 hadn’t been cancelled by Qantas.
