It’s been 10 months since Qantas last ran a Double Status Credits promotion. Since then, one of the most common and hotly debated questions on AFF has been “when will the next double status credits offer be?”
The wait is finally over, with Qantas launching a new promotion today! This offer gives Australian-based frequent flyers the choice of either double Qantas points or double status credits on an unlimited number of new Qantas bookings made between 25 March and 1 April 2022.
The new Qantas double status credits offer for March 2022 is being launched alongside a “Thanks a Million” sale, which sees over a million Qantas airfares on sale. It’s unusual for Qantas to run a sale at the same time as a double status credits or a double points offer, so this could be worth taking advantage of if you’d like to give your status credits a boost.
Qantas status credits count towards your Qantas Frequent Flyer status tier.
Qantas Frequent Flyer is currently extending the status of many frequent flyers who book at least one new flight by the end of their current membership year, for travel any time in 2022. But these extensions will only continue until the end of 2022.
Even if your current status is already due to be extended, you can still take advantage of this offer to reach a higher status tier. If you get the status extension, you can also get some of the status credits earned during your current membership year rolled over into your next year – so they won’t all go to waste.
About the March 2022 double status credits offer
With the current Qantas promotion, you’ll earn your choice of double status credits or double points if you register on the Qantas website and book an eligible flight/s by 1 April 2022. Travel must be completed between 2 April 2022 and 23 March 2023 to be eligible for this offer.
According to the offer terms & conditions, only Qantas operated and marketed flights on an “Australian Domestic or International ticket” are eligible to earn double points or status credits.
This wording is quite vague, but we clarified with Qantas that this is referring to bookings with a Point of Origin in Australia. Bookings where the first flight on the ticket departs outside of Australia will not be eligible for this offer.
The T&Cs also say that “Qantas Frequent Flyer members who reside outside of Australia are not eligible for this offer”. So if the address listed on your Qantas Frequent Flyer account is not in Australia, you’re apparently not able to take advantage of this deal.
Bonus status credits earned through this promo also do not count towards a Tier Accelerator or status challenge offer.
Double status credit runs
Wondering how you can take full advantage of this offer to earn maximum status credits for the lowest possible cost? Here are a few Qantas status run ideas that are currently available to book. Note that the status credit amounts quoted include the bonus status credits:
- Brisbane-Sydney-Christchurch-Melbourne-Brisbane in Business: 520 status credits for $1,033 ($1.99/status credit)
- Melbourne-Sydney-Christchurch (return) in Business: 480 status credits for $1,070 ($2.23/status credit)
- Mackay-Rockhampton-Brisbane (one-way) in Economy: 40 status credits for $109 ($2.73/status credit)
- Sydney-Christchurch (return) in Business: 320 status credits for $998 ($3.12/status credit)
- Adelaide-Melbourne-Gold Coast (one-way) in Economy: 50 status credits for $171 ($3.42/status credit)
- Sydney-Melbourne-Hamilton Island (one-way) in Economy: 50 status credits for $176 ($3.52/status credit)
- Sydney-Melbourne-Launceston (one-way) in Economy: 40 status credits for $159 ($3.98/status credit)
At $1.98/status credit, flying from Brisbane or Melbourne to Christchurch (via Sydney) in Qantas Business Class is a particularly good deal with this offer. If you start in Brisbane and fly via Melbourne, you can even pick up a few more status credits due to the longer domestic connecting flight.
It’s even possible to earn 560 status credits for $1,027 by flying from Brisbane to Christchurch via Melbourne in both directions. However, an overnight stop would be required in Melbourne on the way to Christchurch.
Flying from Mackay to Brisbane via Rockhampton also works out to be reasonable value, since the indirect flight (picking up twice as many status credits) costs the same amount as a direct flight. The route is also on sale right now.
