Qantas Hotels has launched an excellent new promo offering 5,000 bonus points on international accommodation bookings made until Monday, 5 August 2024. The offer covers stays any time during the next year.

Qantas originally launched this offer on Tuesday, 30 July. During the first two days of the promotion, there was no minimum spend required to be eligible for the bonus points. However, Qantas changed the terms & conditions late on Wednesday. According to the new T&Cs, bookings made between 1-5 August need to be worth at least $100 each to qualify for the 5,000 bonus points.

You can claim this offer for up to three bookings made during the promotion period. This means that if you make three separate hotel bookings, you’ll earn 15,000 bonus Qantas points.

15,000 Qantas points is almost enough for a return Classic Flight Reward in Economy from Sydney to Melbourne or Brisbane (plus taxes & carrier charges).

The bonus Qantas points are in addition to the usual 3 points per dollar that you can earn on Qantas Hotels bookings, plus any bonuses for Points Club and Points Club Plus members.

This offer also applies to Qantas Holidays bookings, but excludes Airbnb, Qantas Entertainment and Qantas Tours bookings. The hotel needs to be outside of Australia.

Bookings made with Qantas points are also eligible. According to the offer terms & conditions, “points will be credited within 6 weeks of hotel check-out”. You can find the full offer T&Cs at the bottom of this page on the Qantas website.

You would need to physically stay at the hotel in order to earn the points.

This isn’t the only generous offer we’ve seen from Qantas Hotels this year. In May, the booking platform offered up to 30,000 bonus points per booking – but that required a higher minimum spend.

Will this work if I book the room, but I don't stay but for my wife and kids?

Also if I use my $50 or $100 QF hotel vouchers, would it invalidate the bonus points?

I think if you make the booking, put your QFF number on it, but list your wife as the guest who will stay - and your wife does actually check in/our of the hotel - you should still be able to get the points?

If that's normally how it works for earning points through Qantas Hotels (i.e. the usual 3 points per dollar) then it should be the same for this offer.

Also if I use my $50 or $100 QF hotel vouchers, would it invalidate the bonus points?

I can't see anything in the T&Cs that specifically invalidates bookings made using the Points Club vouchers.

Perfectly timed with a NZ sale too

I have 2 existing bookings that are fully cancellable that I could rebook to get the bonus points. One booking included a $50 Qantas voucher that I will forfeit as it is non refundable.

If I can get the same room rates on re-booking then 10k points will be at an effective cost to me of $50.

Seems tempting.

I’ll have to look at my options.

Just did a ghost booking for an upcoming Europe trip and for the hotel we are looking at QF is $100 a night more expensive than booking direct with the hotel

Same conditions (flex, breakfast). Also checked basic non refundable no breakfast rate and its still $90 per night more

Why not do it all in your wife’s name and just family transfer the points to you - avoid any issues?

Mainly because I am aiming to requalify for PC next cycle. Family transfer does not count.

I assume you have to actually check in and out successfully to claim the points?

Maybe ….
I assumed it might be like, AAadvantage.
I booked a non refundable hotel , had to cancel trip. Didn’t cancel the hotel accommodation, however still earn’t AA points. Similar with hotels.com, still collected the free night even tho I didn’t show up due to a late cancellation of a trip.
