The Qantas domestic Business Lounges in Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane often have some excellent special dishes served available from the Spice Bar, Pizza Bar or The Oven, respectively. But Qantas’ busiest domestic Business Lounge, in Sydney, doesn’t have this… until now.

Many frequent flyers would tell you that the Qantas domestic Business Lounge in Sydney is probably due for a refurbishment. The catering has also seen few changes in years, with typical food options including toasted sandwiches, salad, soups, and pasta or a hot meat-based dish with rice. But there’s an exciting new development on this front.

Qantas is now offering high quality, special plated dishes on selected days in the Sydney domestic Business Lounge. The trial began a few weeks ago and is running on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons.

The lounge is offering different meals on different days, with things like laksa and freshly-prepared salads among the dishes on rotation.

During a visit last Friday evening, AFF member dylarr enjoyed a delicious plate of maple & soy mini drumsticks with Vietnamese slaw.

Food at other Qantas domestic Business Lounges

At Qantas’ Melbourne domestic Business Lounge, the Spice Bar is a huge hit with travellers. Every day, Qantas’ Spice Bar offers two freshly-plated Asian-inspired specials such as noodle soups, crispy noodles or spicy rice-based dishes.

In Perth’s Qantas domestic Business Lounge, there’s a different type of freshly-baked pizza each day.

In the Brisbane domestic Business Lounge, the Mexican Cantina has been rebranded as “The Oven” and serves a variety of different specials, although it no longer seems to be open every day.

Qantas has domestic Business Lounges in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Canberra, with a sixth soon opening in Adelaide. These are separate to the regular Qantas Club lounges and accessible to Business Class passengers, as well as Qantas Platinum, Platinum One and Oneworld Emerald frequent flyers.

Nice!
In the beforetimes I was there when they were trialling a plant based Bolognese of sorts.
Personally I'm a massive fan of the spice bar in Melbourne and would like to see something similar in every Dom J lounge.

On Wednesday it was advertised something like Wontons/Dumplings about 5cm long garnish with a few pieces of asian veges and soyish sauce - they were more in the shape of gyozas. There were three being plated per serve. I did not partake as I was headed to international.

@dylarr, Thankyou for the prompt. I had meant to post ...

Yes, Spice Bar is pretty good. I only wish they serve things before 1200.

last time I was there, of the four food warmers they had, two were rice: Biriyani. And more plain rice to go with the curry. I mean, rice is good. But that’s a lot of rice options…

Ah, I saw someone delivery food to the “Island Dining” about 2 wks ago (Fri, 13th) and I meant to post a comment. Not sure if it was the same initiative? I’d already eaten by the time I noticed so didn’t look too closely.

I welcome this improvement...on my Monday arvo I treat myself to a salad resembling Neil Perry's finest onboard as the hot food is fairly unappetising.

Sounds like Island Dining except now brought to the servery.

I quite enjoyed the chicken burger trials they were running a couple of months ago. It markedly improved the food offering in an otherwise quite miserable facility.

BNE had some dumpling like options going around today in addition to the lasagna and salad in the cantina and all the usual offerings which again is more than the busiest domestic hub

I look forward to these offers in a years time when my Platinum expires. I do remember once upon a time when there was food in the QC which was not available in the Business lounges such as chips and beetroot. I hope that they vary the offering in Adelaide from the endless roast potatoes.
