Qantas has added Colombia and Ecuador to its South American codeshare network. Qantas will place its “QF” code on several LATAM Airlines flights between Santiago-Bogota and Santiago-Guayaquil. The new Qantas South America codeshare flights are already on sale, for travel from 1 January 2019.

The new Qantas South America codeshares mean that Qantas passengers can earn more Qantas points and status credits when flying from Australia to Bogota or Guayaquil. Qantas Club members should also have access to the LATAM Airlines lounge during their Santiago stopover when flying onwards to another South American destination on a QF-coded flight. (Lounge access is not available to Qantas Club members when booked on a partner airline’s code.) As the codeshare flights are marketed by Qantas, they also count towards the 4 annual Qantas flights required to earn or maintain Qantas Frequent Flyer status.

Bogota is the capital of Colombia, while Guayaquil is Ecuador’s largest city and a gateway to the beautiful Galapagos Islands. The Qantas codeshares do not currently extend to Quito, the Ecuadorian capital.

Qantas flies four times per week between Sydney and Santiago, Chile. Qantas flight QF27 arrives in Santiago at 11.10am, while the return QF28 departs Santiago at 1.30pm. Qantas also codeshares on LATAM Airlines’ services from Sydney, Auckland and Melbourne to Santiago.

From Santiago, Qantas passengers can connect to many South American destinations on Oneworld’s LATAM Airlines. Qantas codeshares on LATAM-operated services are already available from Santiago to South American cities including Lima, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. And Chilean domestic destinations served from Santiago by Qantas codeshares include Antofagasta, Punta Arenas and La Serena.

Connections to other South American destinations are also available with LATAM Airlines, but not as a Qantas codeshare with a “QF” flight number.

AFF members are generally pleased to see more destinations added to the Qantas codeshare network. Unfortunately, only selected LATAM flights on these routes are now available as “QF” codeshares. And the new codeshare flights only connect well to Qantas’ Sydney-Santiago flight in one direction. Here are the new Qantas codeshare schedules between Santiago, Bogota and Guayaquil…

Santiago-Bogota:

  • QF4205 Santiago 01:20 – Bogota 05:20
  • QF4206 Santiago 15:10 – Bogota 19:10 (connects from QF27)
  • QF4202 Bogota 10:29 – Santiago 18:14
  • QF4203 Bogota 23:10 – Santiago 06:55+1 day

Santiago-Guayaquil:

  • QF3949 Santiago 06:50 – Guayaquil 10:12
  • QF3948 Guayaquil 04:53 – Santiago 11:46 (connects to QF28)

Qantas codeshare flights within South America can only be booked in conjunction with a Qantas flight to/from Australia.
