If you’re thinking about booking a trip to Europe or Asia for next year, the “early bird” sales have arrived!

Before the pandemic, many airlines traditionally offered their best deals on travel during the European summer season when booking in September or October of the previous year.

COVID-19 interrupted this cycle, and airfares over the past couple of years have been significantly higher than the long-term average. Over the last couple of years, many airlines that previously offered annual “early bird” sales have not done so.

But Singapore Airlines is an exception. And it’s currently offering some more great “early bird” airfares for travel in 2024. Hopefully this year, other airlines will follow.

The Singapore Airlines early bird sale is on until 22 September 2023. If you book by this date, you can even earn 25% bonus Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles on your trip.

These airfares are available for travel dates between 15 January and 5 September 2024, although there are some blackout dates during peak periods. The maximum stay at the destination is six months.

Here are some examples of Singapore Airlines early bird fares available now for travel dates in 2024 in Economy Class:

  • Melbourne-Shanghai from $723 return
  • Brisbane-Beijing from $754 return
  • Cairns-Hong Kong from $767 return
  • Perth-London from $1,580 return
  • Melbourne-Zurich from $1,609 return
  • Sydney-London from $1,672 return
  • Adelaide-Frankfurt from $1,686 return

There are also some good deals available in Premium Economy, including:

  • Melbourne-Singapore from $2,056 return
  • Sydney-Los Angeles from $2,994 return

And Singapore Airlines Business Class deals include:

  • Sydney-Bangkok from $3,775 return
  • Melbourne-Zurich from $6,562 return
  • Perth-Paris from $6,676 return
  • Perth-New York from $7,506 return

Fly Etihad to London from $1,288 return

Looking for a cheap flight to the UK for later this year? Etihad Airways currently has fares from Melbourne to London from $1,288 return.

This unadvertised deal covers various dates including November this year. The main catch is that the return flight has an extra stop in Rome.

You can book on the Etihad website. See the Australian Frequent Flyer forum for details.

The whY fares quoted in my email were much lower - $9xx.

Edit: oh, they were the Asia fares…😳

But they also had Early bird last year. Alas not too many followed their lead.

Hopefully this year will be better given the vast increase in capacity?

$6500 is getting back to pre-covid levels for top tier airlines to europe.

In 2021 I bought tickets for 2022 for SQ, $5800 ret MUC
In 2022 I bought tickets for 2023 for SQ, $6000 ret FRA (this same sale last year).

From my perspective, prices are going up significantly - not getting better. Also, last year SQ had more European ports for the early bird sale.

Some of that maybe due to AUD falling, but even so, prices are not improving even on same exchange rate terms.

The spin I put on it is very different to your hopes I am afraid.
It shows to me that if we got capacity back to even 2019 levels then fares stand a chance of getting back to 2019 levels. Getting to those levels in a more timely fashion would have been helped by granting Qatar increased flights.

Most reports on present capacity say we are only back to ~ 70% of 2019 capacity.

But that’s qantas. Isn’t SQ already back to four or five times daily ex MEL and SYD?

mhm yes but people who can't buy seats on QF services will naturally gravitate towards competitors...

Although SQ is nearly back to pre covid levels it is the total capacity that is only at 70% of pre covid times. The Chinese airlines are certainly not back to their pre covid capacity. Another that I would like back is TG outside of SYD.
Probably not as noticeable at SYD and MEL but at the other major cities the capacity isn't returning quickly.

Fair point. Being from MEL that’s my focus. Agree other cities may not be as fortunate 🙁

Yes even SQ out of BNE has 3 flights a day now which seems good but pre covid they had 4. I believe it will go back to 4 but just for the end of year holidays.
