Virgin Australia has launched a sale today with some very good Business Class airfares available on a wide range of domestic routes from just $219 one-way. There’s also some solid Economy pricing on various domestic routes, as well as overseas to Queenstown, Nadi and Port Vila.

To access the “Let’s get the plans out of the group chat sale” prices today, you’d need to be a Velocity member and search for flights through the sale page on the Virgin Australia website. This page also shows a full list of routes and travel dates that are included in the sale.

Of course, if you’re not already a Velocity Frequent Flyer member, you can sign up for free.

Tomorrow (22 October), the sale will be released to non-members as well. The sale will end on 28 October 2024, unless the sale fares sell out earlier.

This list is not exhaustive. See the Virgin Australia website for a full list of included routes. Note that prices listed above are one-way and subject to availability.

Interestingly, many of these routes are to more “leisure” destinations. It’s great to also see some flights within Western Australia on sale.

These flights are great status credit earners… for now

Last week, Velocity Frequent Flyer announced that it will change the way it awards status credits in April 2025. Instead of awarding a fixed amount based on the distance and fare type flown, it will give status credits for Virgin Australia flights based on the amount you spend. This will ultimately lead to a large reduction in the amount of status credits earned on discounted Business Class airfares such as these.

The good news is that these changes only affect bookings made after 2 April 2025. So, until then you can still earn Velocity status credits on Virgin Australia domestic flights at the following rates:

This means, for example, you could earn 80 status credits when flying Business Class from Brisbane to Cairns for $299. (From April 2025, that same ticket would earn just 25 Velocity status credits.)

Or, earn 105 status credits on a $509 Cairns-Perth ticket in Business at the current rate.
