Many AFF members already know that credit card sign-up bonuses are one of the quickest and cheapest ways to earn lots of frequent flyer points. By taking advantage of a great sign-up bonus offer, you could already earn up to 200,000 Velocity points with a single credit card application!

But it gets even better. Until 31 March 2024, Velocity Frequent Flyer members can register for an additional “Exclusive Benefit” when applying for a co-branded Velocity credit card.

With this offer, Velocity members can choose between the following Exclusive Benefits:

  • 30,000 bonus Velocity points, or
  • 200 Virgin Australia status credits.

200 status credits is almost enough to reach Velocity Silver status. To get Silver, you would need to earn 250 status credits and 2 eligible Virgin Australia flight sectors.

If you’re chasing or want to renew Velocity Frequent Flyer status, the 200 status credits could be a very attractive offer. But if you don’t need status credits, 30,000 bonus points is also a great deal.

How to get your “Exclusive Benefit”

After registering for this offer and choosing your preferred reward on the Velocity Frequent Flyer website, you would need to then apply for an eligible credit card that earns Velocity points and has an annual fee by 31 March 2024.

Co-brand credit cards that earn Velocity Frequent Flyer points directly are eligible. However, cards that earn bank reward points which are transferrable to Velocity points are not eligible for this offer. The American Express Velocity Escape card, which has no annual fee, is also ineligible.

Here is a full list of the credit cards eligible for this promotion:

All of these credit cards are also currently offering individual sign-up bonus points. These range from 10,000 bonus Velocity points (with the BOQ Specialist Platinum card) up to 200,000 points (with an Amex Velocity Business card). You’ll receive those regular bonus Velocity points in addition to your Exclusive Benefit.

This means that you could earn up to 230,000 bonus Velocity points (or 200,000 Velocity points + 200 status credits) by registering for this offer and applying for an American Express Velocity Business card by 31 March 2024!

Or, earn up to 150,000 Velocity points by applying for a Westpac Altitude Velocity Black personal credit card.

To receive the Exclusive Reward, you would also need to meet the minimum spend criteria for earning the regular bonus points being offered by the card issuer. You’ll receive the Exclusive Reward within 30 days of receiving the bonus points associated with the bank’s individual card offer.

Note that most banks will not award bonus points to existing cardholders, or if you have held another credit card with the same bank in the previous 12 months (or 18 months for American Express). If you are not eligible for the individual bonus points offer that comes with the card, you also wouldn’t receive the Exclusive Benefit.

Velocity Frequent Flyer last ran a similar promotion from mid-February until late March 2023.

Hi All,

I just saw online that Velocity has a 30,000 Velocity points or 200 status credit for opening certain credits cards.

  • First, choose your exclusive benefit (30,000 bonus Points OR 200 Status Credits) by 31 March 2024. Be sure to choose wisely because once your choice is made you will not be able to change it.
  • Then, apply for a Velocity Points earning credit card with an annual fee by 31 March 2024.
  • Be approved for your chosen card and meet the minimum spend criteria as specified by the provider.
  • Your chosen benefit will then be applied to your Velocity account after the minimum spend criteria as specified by the provider is met.

The promo can be found here.

You need to register here and select your option -

Might be useful for some.

I will take advantage of this offer at the end of February so that it is credited towards next year. Thank you.

Wow wasn't expecting the offer to come back so quickly. Looks like although the offer ends 31 March, Velocity Flyer Card first year annual fee discount end March 4.

8. Annual Fee
Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card half annual fee offer is available to new customers that apply by 4 March 2024. The annual card fee is $64 for the first year, then $129 will be charged on the anniversary of your card account being opened with Virgin Money.

$64 annual card fee for the first year and then $129 after that8 (Annual fees are subject to change. Effective March 2024, the annual fee is increasing to $149 for new applicants.)

I'm tossing up between Velocity Flyer and Velocity High Flyer

Posted over in OzB.

I applied for the Westpac Altitude Platinum Card - took five minutes for the application and approved straightaway. They then sent an information pack via email and I could set up a digital card on my phone immediately, whilst waiting for the physical card to arrive in several days. I’ve already started to spend on this card.

Will hopefully meet the $4K spend criteria then sign up my wife on the same card before the promo period ends in March.

I just applied and received preliminary approval for the Velocity Flyer, it was immediately after selecting the SC bonus so hopefully no problems with eligibility.

The days of 100k bonus points on the Velocity Flyer card are probably gone, but 90k + $129 VA voucher is not bad as well.

Does anyone know what the exclusion periods are for past card holders?

Is it 18 months for Amex, 12 months for Westpac?

This promo is back. This time, it is 30K bonus points or 200SC. Shows both on Velocity & VA app on iPhone.

However, when I wanted to activate this offer - I only get the 30K bonus points options and not the 200SC option. There is no information in the T&C that prevents some members from selecting the 200SC option, unless, I have missed something?

On iPhone, the promo card shows in the home page, click on it, shows the details (30K bonus points or 200SC), click Select Benefit, does a quick FaceID check and then ONLY shows the 30K bonus points benefit, not the 200SC.

I was able to select the 200SC via the website on a computer/laptop though. So iPhone users beware and use a laptop/computer instead.

As an extension to this -

I'm now looking at various cards that I can apply. I have zeroed in on the Virgin Money Flyer card

There is a statement on the above link that the offer is applicable to new customers only. However, when I looked at the variety of guides Virgin Money have in this link, there is no mention of or clear definition of who the new customer is. Usually CCs have 12-18 month exclusion period, however, where is this documented?

Anyone have any idea? or experience in finding the criteria for a *new customer* for Virgin Money?

No idea, but I've had a virgin money CC 3 separate occasions, all coming with ~100k bonus points and been a virgin money account holder for many years continuously.

What was the gap between the 3 separate occasions that you held the card?
