AMEX Platinum Charge Benefits - Q&A

Accor gives the biggest benefits. Shangri-la is very limited, especially in Australia. The offer from Shangri-la would need to have a easy to use value of hundreds of $$$ to compensate. Also given a lot of Shangri-la's are part of FHR anyhow they give good value.

just got off the phone with Amex. she's confirmed the Accor benefit will lapse at the end of September and not be renewed

Do we still get to keep Platinum Le Club Accor status? Seems to be listed as a separate benefit to the Accor Plus.

A free night as well as discounted dining at hotels located throughout Australia is going to be a painful benefit to lose. I
can not imagine how an offering from Shang ri la could ever measure up.

My renewal is due at the end of the year. The new offer will have to be very good to make up for the Accor loss.

Yes agree, might have to cancel charge card and just pay for accor plus.

Am I right in saying if I sign up for Accor say on the 29th of Sept, I would keep that membership for the full year (til sept 2016)

My understanding is AMEX will not process any renewals post the benefit end date. As long as it's renewed you'd keep it for the Accorr year.

My Accor Advantage Plus expires in November 2015 - I may try to call Amex this month and ask to "renew" it before 30/9 but I'm quite sure what the answer will be :(

BTW it's strange there's no formal communication about it - in the past (e.g. Marco Polo Gold) Amex sent a letter formally announcing the end of the "promotion" - nothing at all this time...

My guess is as the dates in the T&C's they won't ... waiting for Accor to start calling to ask if I want to pay for it etc.

The end date wasn't in the T&Cs when I signed up for the card - of course all this stuff is "subject to..." so they can pull the plug whenever they want on any of the benefits, having said that to rely on cardholders to periodically check T&Cs and spot the changes is very poor form, also you would expect the vast majority is not on AFF or other online forums so the call from Accor would come as a total surprise!

I am.not sure if this has been covered elsewhere but I notice that the Amex plat in Thailand has access to Thai airways business class lounges -Complimentary access airport lounge at Royal Silk of Thai Airways has anybody tried to access the lounges?

One of my sup card holders tried this, all be it by accident and got told it's not a Thai card so no access. They were meant to hand over Priority Pass hence learnt about this. They also were at the wrong lounge!
