Is Citi Plus still the best option for overseas cash? Obviously I haven't done a lot of international travel since 2019.

If I have to open some other account it might be time to get started, since we depart in five weeks.

(I'm set for FX-fee-free purchases, with a US Amex Gold backed with a Coles Rewards Mastercard and a Bundll account which charges to my Dragon Visa.)

I kept the Nab Debit card because I actually used the new account to apply for NAB Qantas Signature credit card as existing customer so I get better deals than I applied as brand new customer.

However when I logged into Nab app, I don't see that debit card offering any international currency exchange fees waivers though.

That’s what I mentioned at post #586 recently (see screenshots). My NAB Platinum debit is fee free but Citi replacement is silent (as far as the app is concerned).

I thought saw earlier someone confirm it was fee free when they used it.

If I get a chance on my current trip, I’ll try the new card and report back.

I used it last week, it works.
Yes, as per previous reports. It’s just odd that the app doesn’t recognise what’s been issued - which is not surprising I suppose for a grandfathered version of an otherwise existing NAB product (hence the confusion and doubt).

I left the country with 5 (now 4) fee free debit cards (and 1x fee free CC). Having at least one spare on a trip just makes sense in case you lose a card.

So as you’ve said multiple times, why cancel? There’s zero cost to have a backup or use it has a primary. 🤷‍♂️

No, not silence. NAB had sent out e-mail, before Christmas, telling you all the fees and charges, including specifically whether there is any / no forex fee.

Read your e-mail. This had been asked 100s times here already.

I was referring to the app. See screenshots in earlier post.

I am pleased to report that Mrs D went off to the UK bank and kindly accepted their 12.8% markup
Cost me/us $173 to get £600 out.
Danske bank - bunch of thieves.
Translating, Mrs D accepted a kind offer to charge in AUD? ie DCC…? 😳

Am currently in Portugal and traveling overseas without my Citi card for the first time in years.

I chose to open a Macquarie account and it’s been excellent for the last month I’ve been using it.

Rates are great. The app is very useful and easy to use. Will possibly make this my main bank.

Yes, the Macquarie card is very good. SUPERB app and 4.75% on the savings AND cheque account.
I wish they could program it to reject DCC!!

I believe that DCC should be coded as an opt-in so that unless you had opted in you were not presented with the DCC option at point of purchase at all. It is disgraceful that you constantly need to reject it.
I had an ATM in Armenia the other day that charged a withdrawal fee but didn't inform you at all. Most ATMs here charge no fees, so I did well to select the one that does.

Thank these guys:
Well, Visa tried to stop DCC, but got fined $18 million for their troubles.

Yes, Amex disallow it. Visa and MasterCard permit it, although as per the article Visa did once try to disable it. I think ACCC treats Visa/MasterCard differently than Amex because Amex is more of a closed loop.

True, although they apply the rules how it suits it seems, the co-brand Amex cards that existed before the cap on swipe fees clearly ceased being worthwhile to the banks/Amex, but god forbid something that has almost (if not always) never benefited the customers be enacted. Shame, but it is what it is I suppose.
