Major earthquake just happened an hour ago, sizeable aftershocks continuing. Hope everyone travelling in the region is safe. Tsunami evacuation issued already for certain areas. Warning for the whole coast on the sea of Japan side.

It's smaller then the 2011 quake, but stronger then a prior quake in the same area in 2008.

Also reports of Tsunami warnings in parts of Korea and conflicting reports of warnings in Russia near Vladivostok.
Most damage in Ishikawa prefecture.

Looks like so far with the reported damage, there doesn't seem to be extreme. Some major damage to roads and building near the epicenter, loss of power (this is probably the main problem now) and some injuries and disruption to travel.

Aftershocks have been continuing all evening it seems. Still given what it could have been, it seems fairly tame.

It was a decent shake even here in Tokyo, and went for quite a while. Hopefully not the precursor to the next big one.
