Simultaneous launch in Thursday Canada time (approx 3am AEST Friday) at three sites - Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver

Two repainted 321 aircraft and a new 787 flew into bases under cover of darkness. One photographed in what is said to be decoy / half livery.

But it looks like a predominately Eurowhite scheme with possibly blue/dark grey engines and bottom

I think credit to the above is @sammillar94 but it was edited with no recognition on the Twitter feed j saw it

Not exactly eye catching.... at least they have the maple leaf which is something Canadian on the tail currently to identify it as such although that pic just has the *A symbol so maybe it will remain. Oh well they won't be able to hide it for long!

Isn't that just a plane in generic Star Alliance livery?

If ACs new style doesn't include a Maple Leaf, preferably red, there will be, er ... a stir ( think of Qantas without a roo ... paws amputated or not). Then of course, AC being Montreal based, maybe it will be a blue and white scheme with 'Je me souvuens' written down the side ;)

Interesting Livery, AC heading towards a more classic appearance.

Lets hope both the hard and soft product on the inside of the aircraft also gets a makeover. :)

Not sold on the makeover .... another image from below

The black makes everything stand out quite a bit more, much more defined lines. Not sure how well that red maple appears on a black background, but so be it.

I have to admit I think I like the black better than the powder blue. Not sure precisely why; something about the blue kind of fading away, and when the contrast was enough to see it, it didn't seem to vary well with the red. I can imagine that any of AC's other efforts to use the same blue palette in other communications would have been a bit awkward or too soft.

Anyway, who am I to say, it's just an opinion.

Did this livery change align with any particular (other) major announcement from AC? All I see is an anniversary of the airline.

Our new livery signals another pivotal transition point in our 80-year history and celebrates a major branding project for a globally recognized Canadian company. Together with our new uniforms, improved international cabin standard and enhanced on-board products, the future of Air Canada represents the strength of our nation and the future-looking spirit of our airline through distinct references to Canadian culture, heritage and evolution. From small regional airports to major international hubs, wherever we land, we fly the flag with care and class.

Air Canada’s fleet of 300 mainline and regional aircraft are being repainted in a bold black and white design that highlights its iconic red maple leaf encircled ensign, or “rondelle,” that returns to the tail of the flag carrier’s fleet after an absence of 24 years. Reflecting Canada’s vastness and contrasting seasons, with references to its wildlife and First Nations heritage, the new fleet livery was designed by international design firm Winkcreative, headed by Canadian entrepreneur Tyler Brûlé. Following today’s events, the first three aircraft sporting this new livery will enter service immediately.

I prefer the old livery. It had more character than the new one (IMHO) but then again I'm not a graphic designer. I think this one blends into the pack.

Another vote for the old livery, which could have been improved by making the blue bluer.

Black & red is not a good colour combination, except maybe for Transylvania Air, and doesn't go with the white body.

To paraphrase Gail Abernathy-McKadden-Feinberg:- "It's a nice surprise to see Air Canada mixing it up. It's refreshing ... yet displeasing to the eye."

What is it with airlines and their constant need to spend money "updating" their liveries? Understand it if these were old old liveries that were really out of date, or associated with a complete overhaul of the products as well, but I didn't think Air Canada's livery (or QF's for that matter), were so out of date that they fell into that category.
