BA Avios subscriptions

I have already purchased (and transferred) my annual limit of Bonvoy points this year unfortunately. I was looking into transferring Hilton Honors points but it's a 10:1 ratio and takes up to 30 days so not the best value.

Back in the day, I earned my first Avios by booking a hotel stay through Agoda PointsMAX and crediting that to BA. It took a bit of time for the Avios to come through, though.

Yeah, I thought about that option but haven't got any hotel stays coming up. In the end I just converted 10K Hilton Honors points to 1K Avios and also joined that Avios survey program so hopefully one or the other will credit my 1 mile soon!

Which one did you sign up for? Monthly or annual?

I bought 3000 Marriot Bonvoy points and then transferred them to BAE. Cost about $60
I think you can buy 1000 avios points through QR's privilege club. Then transfer that 1000 to BA executive club.

I'm interested in buying this subscription but have never used BA Executive Club and have 0 Avios and it says you need at least 1 Avios to take part. Any suggestions about how to acquire a few Avios?r
Buy 1000 avios points through QR's privilege club. Link your executive club and QR's privilege club accounts. Then transfer 1000 points to BA

Interesting new proposition from BA.

I've just been doing the maths on this, and I think it might actually be quite a good deal. It's better value than buying Avios at a 50% bonus.

It is a good deal but you still have to wait an entire year before accumulating enough points ( approximately 180k return from oz to Europe in business class on Qatar) . Otherwise within 6 months you will have enough points for a few domestic flights.

BA.pngDoes anyone else have the issue of seeing the fees in Euros instead of GBP? Is this an address issue or do I need to use a VPN?

Unfortunately it's the same deal - you have to have at least 1000 Qatar Avios to buy any additional. I'll just wait for my Hilton points to transfer across. Thanks for the suggestions!

I have just blown my stash of BA Avios booking OTP-DOH-IKA-DOH-ATQ in J with QR in May-June. I know if I was patient, the QR flights might show up for availability with QF Frequent Flyer points but I didn't want to wait and take the chance. I am sorely tempted to go for the 200,000 annual package so I can have some of this useful currency for plugging gaps in itineraries and taking side trips. QR in particular has some interesting destinations and they seem to have become almost inaccessible to us through QF. So I am humming and hawing over doing it. That suggests to me they have got the price point (in pounds) pretty much spot on.

When I signed up (monthly) only saw the price in Euros (even with VPN set to UK) but when I checked the exchange rate, Euros showed as cheaper than pounds. Did I get that wrong?

Be aware: BA is good for QF J class Australian domestic award redemptions - however, it doesn't work for QantasLink flights - although marketed as Qantas - it's a codeshare in the BA system and doesn't show.

I've travelled DRW-ADL-DRW many times using Avios, and the QF 737 is visible and bookable, however the QF E190 is not visible nor unbookable.

I took the bait. I think this deal is fantastic value.
I'm curious if the same rate applies AFTER 12 months or if defaults to the rate without the discount?

I'd be confident it will, subject to inflation of course. BA seems to sell points at different rates for different situations. They have a co-payment option for flights booked with Avios that represent good value - but where the co-payment is a substitute for relatively small amounts of points. They sell points - presumably to people who want to make a specific booking but have nowhere near enough points - for large amounts. And this looks like selling large amounts of points that people never even knew they needed - at a discount to get people to spend. There are a few situations where this offers excellent value, but mostly that is for grossly overpriced Australian domestic direct flights (does anyone actually pay for these out of their own pockets?). If you look at domestic J in Britain or Europe, or look at long haul routes that could be paid for using QF FF points from credit card churning, you may see much less value.

The real selling point right now looks to be having access to QR flights when seats might still be available when QF now only gets access about three months before the flight.
