BA passenger injured when bag in overhead locker hit him on the head:

British Airways passenger seriously injured after being hit on the head by a bag that fell from overhead locker | Daily Mail Online

News editor needs to have his facts checked before reporting carry-on luggage limit of 23kg.

Ummmm, that is the limit on BA for hand luggage.

  • The maximum weight per bag is up to 23kg/51lb and you must be able to lift it into the overhead locker by yourself.

Seriously?
Thanks. Learned something new. One word to describe this: generous.
Generous? It's only a few years since BA added the carryon 23kg weight limit.

Before that the bare requirement was the part about the PAX having to be able to lift it into the overhead locker by themself.

Are there other carriers you know of allowing 23kg cabin luggage?

UA used to be 23kg, I can't find a weight limit currently.

AA doesn't list a weight either, just noting, "you’ll also need to be able to lift your bag into the overhead bin".

EasyJet has no limit; just must be restricted to one bag only, and they police that.

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Isnt there a sign inside the bins with their max allowed weight and isn't is 23 or 25kgs? Not that I pay much attention to it but I remember once joking that hubbys one backpack was the entire overhead Kgs allowed for our row/side of the plane.

It varies between aircraft and presumably, bin design.

The following link put out by Boeing shows a bin designed to hold 6 standard carry-on bags... which at the 'standard' 7kg weight would give a bin load limit of at least 42kg (plus tolerances): Boeing: Space Bins

The photo in this thread shows a limit on a Delta MD-88 as being 120lbs/54kg: Overhead bin space; 'First Class Passengers Only' (pic) - FlyerTalk Forums
