It does seem to happen quite often relative to other airports. Its rated as one of the most dangerous in the world.

Having seen this airport in Nepal on TV I am surprised it doesn’t happen more often.

I've flown in and out of there personally. It's a wild ride, buzzing very close to mountain tops, through cloud, mist and all manner of turbulence and pressure fluctuations. The majority of the pilots that make those runs have my most esteemed respect.

Flew into Lukla and out past fortnight. Certainly a roller coaster take off. A most unfortunate accident, we stood watching the helicopter hard stand. No room for error. Sends a shiver up my spine. Fullest respect for the talented pilots who operate this airstrip heightened by my pilot experience.
