MLE-JNB in J - 80K or 55K points

I'm looking at MLE-DOH-JNB in a few "what if" searches as my booking date has not opened yet and I'm seeing lots of availability on QR but some flight combos show 80K pp and others show 55K for no apparent reason.

The ones for 55K are less 'attractive'; i.e. longer layovers and one even goes via CMB.

When time comes to book I'll give the 55K option a shot and hope it does not error out.

Has anyone seen this sort of discrepancy on other QR routes using AA points??

It appears the 80K flights book into First on the initial segment and Business on the second segment while the 55K ones book into Business on both segments. You can see it by clicking details on the booking page and looking at the actual class.

When I flew MLE-DOH earlier this year, the flights were being operated by four-class 777s leased from CX, so you're getting CX's hard product.
