Sometimes you just don't whether to laugh or cry. After an early morning at SYD and a long day at my customer I return to my rental car to find the hot sun acted like an oven to warm up the remaining vomit that the previous renter left in the car for me.

I am normally pretty tolerant of small issues but this was more than I could handle. Apologies if this puts anyone off their lunch but you could actually see some of the offending material stuck in the air vent. Looking back, there was a strong smell of deodoriser in the car on my morning drive but I didn't take much notice of it. It really made me wonder how well the cars are cleaned, especially when there is an obvious problem with it.

So off I go for a drive to the closest Hertz office. 1.5 hours in SYD traffic with the windows down all the way and gagging all the way.

Hertz were kind enough to exchange the car so off I go throug the motions of carting my suitcase over to the carpark, check the car for scratches, load the car up. I'm just about to hop into the drivers seat when I notice the front tyre looks a little low. A few kicks and pushes quickly indicated that it was flat. Yes, a freshly washed and checked in car wiht a flat tyre.

Back I go again for yet another car. So far so good with this one. You know what they say.... 3rd time lucky.... I hope.

After many years renting from Hertz this is only the second issue I've had so please don't take this as an indication of their usual quality. (The first issue was a large huntsman spider in the car in Newcastle, but that's another story).

Some days you just get all the luck!

Also, the flat may have happened after cleaning/preparation (ie. in Brisbane, this is done off-site, then the car is brought around to the customer pickup.dropoff area - it could have caught the flat in that short drive. At least they didnt make you wait while they changed the tyre!

We rented a car in Brissy, I can not remember which company...
I was driving out to the place I was visiting (a weather radar out in redbank plains) and the police pull me over for a random breath test, checks the rego and finds that the rego is out of date and the front tyre is dangerously low!

(ok I dont think it beats the spew smell... but I was a little shocked and embarrassed)

You would think that the rental company would do a little more than just exchange the car given your time has been wasted and the fact there is good competition in the rental car market...

At least you should get a refund of the Vehicle Registration Recovery Fee for that rental !

Richard.

The first exchange was actually a downgrade to a small Hyundai because "that's all they have left". Strange that my second exchange 15 mins later was a Commodore.

I just happen to be a Hertz Gold 5 Star member too......

That may have been all that was unallocated and ready at that time. However, when there was the issue raised with that that it clearly couldn't go out, they may have re-allocated a booked one for later that day back to you, and then deal with the flow-on consequences later (the Commodore could have been an intended free upgrade for someone else, or even that they may re-shuffle based on other car's returned).

Maybe not strange. Whoever was down to get that Commodore is probably getting a certain car you know all too well..... with a fresh lot of deodouriser!
