Promo seems a little weird to me. Potentially is targeting people who have fat expense accounts and might be able to get away with it.

Based on the example, prices are a little less than physically buying miles - although I can't recall if AA are still having their promos on point purchases or not.

Also this point in the T&C's is strange:
" Any subsequent changes to your flight(s), including flight cancellation or routing changes will not impact the posting of the purchased bonus miles to your account." - so it seems that you don't actually have to fly to have the bonus points post!
