I have a Platinum Edge that this month was converted from a Velocity Platinum. When I asked to change the product the rep advised it can be done but I wont get any of the current sign up bonus - fine.

i got charged the $195 annual fee on the conversion date. 1 week later the cook spent $8.02 at Woolworths (she is thrifty, was probably stale veges on special) , and I picked up 15000 reward points and I have no idea why.

Exact wording is "Platinum Edge Conversion Bonus Point offering"

I am not going to ring AMEX and ask, paranoid about hearing someone say "oops. sorry, that wasnt supposed to happen"
but there does not seem to be any signup bonus for 15,000 points.

Anyway, seems like thats the best $8 she ever spent.

Take the luck for what it is.

I am going to switch out my Velocity Plat for the Explorer card if its possible tomorrow.

Very very interesting - that's the first I've heard like that. In a way it makes sense; AMEX opened you a new reward account type (Ascent for the Edge) and thus you got the current bonus point offering.

I certainly wouldn't be querying it and just put it down as good luck!

Enjoy!

I do recall that when I rang the rep initially said that I cant transfer between the two product different types. and then I was also aware that you could only transfer between the product famlies, like from Velocity Platinum to Velocity Escape/
However she said to just hang on a minute and then came back and said there is a new feature and we can do it.

From the wording of the bonus points, "conversion" maybe it is a genuine thanks for sticking with us reward, instead of cancelling.
WIll be intersting to see how others go, certainly for me, the benefits of Plat Edge are heaps better than Velocity Platinum, due to higher points redemptions on shopping and petrol

Another data point. I received this "Platinum Edge Conversion Bonus Point offering" of 15000 points too.
I called to cancel my Qantas Premium AMEX, and was offered the Platinum Edge as it "better suits my spending" - it was a product switch, not a new application. A month or so later, these points turned up.

Slightly OT but i wondering if i can switch from a DJ Amex or Explorer Amex to Plat Edge , also with product switch you won't get another credit hit on Veda like a new application right ?

See, buying fresh produce isn't always beneficial. ;)

I had an explorer card and got it Transferred to a Platinum edge before Christmas. Card only appeared this week due to the long holiday. A few months ago, I remember reading a thread (its this one!!!) that said you could still have a chance to get the bonus points. I looked high and low over the Christmas break to find this thread to back up my intuition, but could not find it! I applied anyway banking on my memory and also a small overhead of:

no hit on credit file (I checked);
$200 travel credit offsets the $195 annual fee
good earn rate
reward of 15k maybe..

Lo and behold, made a spend this week for $50, and came with it the 15K bonus "Platinum Edge Conversion Bonus Point offering".

Another happy customer :) :)

Oh forgot to say, thanks OP for the tip. Had you not posted this thread, and me reading it months ago, I wouldnt have gotten the double dip :)
