Please feel free to post any upcoming wine events in Sydney that other AFFs might be interested in.

Hello. My name is Shaun and as a lover of all things related to fine wine I endorse this thread.

First up from me: Coonawarra Roadshow

Event: 3 hours with 26 Coonawarra wineries. Typically it’s the winemaker, vigneron, or the owner that shows up and does the pouring. Top chance to taste a huge selection – easily more than 100 wines on pour, and an opportunity to ask questions and get real answers from the producer.

Time, Date, Place: 5-8pm on August 12 at The Ivy

Participating wineries: Balnaves of Coonawarra, Banks Thargo Wines, The Blok Estate Coonawarra, Bowen Estate, Brand's Laira Coonawarra, Jack Estate, DiGiorgio Family Wines, Highbank Wines, Hollick Estates, Katnook Coonawarra, Kidman Wines Coonawarra, Koonara Wines, Lindeman's Wines, Majella Wines, Parker Coonawarra Estate, Patrick of Coonawarra, Penley Estate, Petaluma, Raidis Estate, Redman Wines, Rymill Coonawarra, St Hugo, Wynns Coonawarra, Yalumba, Zema Estate Wines, and Whistle Post Wine.

Cost: $45 a ticket

Facebook/Tickets: https://www.facebook.com/events/553479684831145/

Please note the tour is going to other cities and I hear it's pretty much the same format, just different nights, different venues, and a slightly different line-up at each city (check out the link above for further details). So other AFFers in other cities - by all means get your own gaggle going.

I'm in for this event. Please let me know if you want to join us. It should be a great night.

Thanks to Wozza for the mention.

I'll actually be along at this event (and 5 others around the country.) I just had a meeting with a few of the winemakers down here and I mentioned that this thread was alive. They just asked me to tell people to not be shy and to drag some of them out for a meal after. They're normally very keen to take the tasting bottles out with people who want to enjoy them rather than tip them down the sink!

There's a good gaggle of us going from the private messages I have received about this event. I personally am really looking forward to meeting some of the owners and winemakers and trying their latest offerings.

If you would like to join us touring around the various tables and to meet up afterwards for a drink or light meal, then please message here or PM me.

I would love to go for a casual meal with one or more of the wine folk (and your good self, JMphoto). I'll message you in the background to see what's the go on this front.

msYoda and I should both be there.
Is there a meet up location / way to identify you all who will be going?

I'm very interested in the Coonawarra wine thing at the Ivy. But does it seriously only go for three hours? 5 - 8pm? For $45?

Seems like a very short time to get through a large quantity of wine.

Unless you do tasting on a professional level, you're unlikely to get through all that wine and still have any ability to distinguish by the end. Better to focus on the 15-20 that you're most interested in.

I'm more thinking of trying to get in to the city on a Friday night after work, being there by 6:30 at the earliest, then trying to run around for an hour to sample everything I want to sample.

Would have thought considering a Friday night a later start time would have been better?

Or maybe it's just something I miss not working in the CBD.

Can I get in to the Ivy with steel cap boots?

It may be that, on Friday night, venue hire goes up the later the event goes, because it's eating into Friday night partying.
Or maybe they expect most of the crowd to be from the CBD and surrounds.
Who knows.

Edit: even in a hour you can probably try 15 odd wines - that's one every 4 minutes...

For all those attending the Coonawarra Wine Tasting, we are meeting on the corner of Martin Place and George at 5pm today. And will head down to the Ivy. For those coming later, speak to Jamie on the door and he may be able to point you to our group. If not, then PM through AFF. I'll try to regularly look and will leave my number with Jamie too.

I'd suggest pacing yourself and getting to speak to the winemakers and owners there. It's not everyday you get to meet so many of the great and good of the Aussie wine world. Also, we'll be heading out for a casual BYO meal afterwards, and we are likely to have some join us whose names you'll spot on the odd bottle or two!

It should be a great night. Really looking forward to it. See you there if you are going.

I agree. Trying to get to the city by 5 pm (or even 6 pm) when you don't work in the city is just too much of a hassle. It's just one of those things.

Wish I could make it but that is weekend which is crazy for me...

What an evening!
Coonawarra tasting at the Ivy was excellent, and the company was superb (onya Wozza et. al).

It was great to see (taste & smell) violets from a couple older / reserve wines presented by a couple kind / proud wineries. (violets are where it's at)

The missus and I have become accustomed to aged wines, so it was difficult for us to judge the wines on display (without age). Especially after 32 wines! (maybe more, Wozza's fault)

Looking forward to the next lunch / dinner / wine splurge where I can share some of my $18 faves.
