I started this thread to become a home for all of the general wine chatter and news that doesn't really fit in the existing wine "deal" threads (often getting moderated/deleted as OT and lost forever...)

I'm looking forward to to seeing it grow :)

I'll start it off with these posts from qas and Dr Ralph

Interesting stuff in the latest Jeremy Oliver Wine Annual about Wendouree - including being named wine of the year.

Wish I'd ordered more now!

Steady, I want the crazy rhyming poetry and certain wine descriptions of the last days.
Will I or you have a go at importing it?

Poetry and wit comes naturally at any place and time. I thought it was very poor form to remove harmless and entertaining material from a previous thread. Boo.

Has BF's lyrics and was it W and D's wine write up been deleted?
If so can we ask it to be reinstated here?
Was it in the Vinmofo topic?

Many, many of BF's gems have been deleted - his almost essay length ode to Wozza and wine around Christmas/New Year was truly art and from memory when a copy was requested the advice was once deleted it is permanent :(

Hopefully any future "OT infractions" can be moved here - I do see the mods move OT posts to the correct thread sometimes.

However we are volunteers and expect you to know where the appropriate place to post various things is (such as I'm sure you all know there's only one place to post referrals). We're not porters, running around after you with your bags ;)

And you are all appreciated, the "hopefully" and "sometimes" were not meant to ruffle your feathers and were also not intended to represent "expect"

Indeed, but I hope it is appreciated that wit generally does not appear without context. Are we really suggesting that people can't engage in amusing banter about a subject, in a thread dedicated to that subect? It's an important question. It's one of the things that draws me to these threads. Did any of the posts actually offend anybody? If not, then is it not a case of spending effort to do something that nobody wants, and leaving it be would be easier and more desirable?

I think the important note was that the poetry was interesting, but needed to also include content, however in many cases did not. If you poetry came about after you posted something that was on-topic then it wouldn't be deemed off-topic... as there would be something on-topic ;)

As for whether they offended, I doubt it, but they were reported, drawing attention to them!

I see your point. I think I could argue that wit and humour constitutes content. If strictly applied, a rule of 'there must be information' would also force you to delete posts that said, for example, "Thanks".

Anyhow, best regards

Don't get me started... :p

However, the posting of poetry in a thread that is for posting Vinomofo offers and establishing which wine they are seems off topic. The poetry seems to do nothing more than distract, even if you felt inspired to write it by seeing the listing. If you responded with information that helped pinpoint which wine it is, that's different, that's on-topic, and you could probably then jump into prose.

A WINE DRINKERSPARADOX

Sometimeswhen I reflect back on all the wine I drink, I feel shamed.
ThenI look into the glass and think about the workers in the vineyard
andall of their hopes and dreams. If I don’t drink this wine, they might
beout of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to
myself,it is better that I drink this wine and let their dreams come true,
thanbe selfish and worry about my liver
