Disposables such as toiletries ok to nick?

What's not?

There is nothing better than Rydges... Sanctum brand soap bars (to be used instead of shaving cream), so I always take one, I'm a bit of a badass.

I generally find they get upset when you start walking out with towels and bed lamps.
Televisions and bar fridges are a definite no no, if not just for the inconvenience of having to get them down to your car, taxi, bus, Segway or moped.

I hate staying at hotels that have huge fluffy towels. They're a cough to get into the suitcase!

JB

slightly off topic ..... 5 star hotel in Vegas had sex toys purchasable along side the peanuts, mars bars

I have no issue taking disposable toiletries. No point leaving used soap behind when it could easily be used at home.

I have noticed though a lot of hotels now have the fixed soap dispenser.

I figure the soap, shampoo etc are factored into the tariff. As such I have no issue with collecting them. Mrs GPH makes up emergency packs with assorted soaps and toiletries for the local women's shelter for the walk in emergency cases. Also during the Brisbane floods she had about 100 packs ready to go , so took them to the flood relief folk. Never underestimate the value of clean hair and a toothbrush. It can make a difference to to how you feel in a time of crisis.

Stayed in a reasonable hotel in Lagos a few years ago, before you could check out an audit of the room was done to make sure you hadn't nicked the TV. I've probably still got the receipt saying we were good to go in amongst my collected junk.

Have been on holiday where one member of the party had to buy a cheap smallish suitcase to carry the collected a Shangri-la toiletries/bathroom products back home. Amazing the amount of stuff that can be collected in 2 weeks.

I try to travel HLO so often have to prioritise what will fit in the little plastic bag.

Taking the Good Book is palatable but hair dryers and remote controls for TVs? I've heard these too get taken.

Some years ago I stayed in a hotel in Malaysia which had a price list displayed of all moveable objects in room (including the bed).

Years ago we stayed in a hotel in Halong Bay, Vietnam. At check-in we were given the TV remote control along with the room key .
Both had to be returned on check-out.

Were you required to pay a deposit?

I have experienced a similar procedure in Russia.

I remember in Bali we were accused of pinching the ratty black and white check cover on the end of the beds. They would not let us leave. We had a plane to catch! Finally they rang the room steward (11pm at night) and he said he'd stowed it in the cupboard on the first day. We had little time left for our flight so the Hotel Manager drove us there. Not impressed.

Soaps etc I think are fine. I also take the small sewing kits. Had to venture throughout Venice trying to find a needle and thread. No one had them. Then took a punt and walked into a designer studio. Success. But cost 10 euro. I pocketed a sewing kit just this morning.

Linen and anything bolted down - no.

Remotes - no

Batteries in remotes - definitely no and very annoying for the next guest

Any toiletries in glass or ceramic bottles - no - and who wants to risk glass in luggage anyway. Likewise with the drinking glasses.

Bottle openers - no - especially if it's bolted to the wall.

Coathangers - why do people want to take these?

Pens - yes, but see coathangers, and how many do you need?

Anything plastic or in a small cardboard box with the hotel brand on it - knock yourself out.

The disposable slippers you get in most Asian hotels - yes - I always take them when my stock runs low. For when I travel to Australian hotels!

The non-disposable slippers you get in some Asian hotels - no - (I do hope they wash them between guests).:)

I cannot remember. But I imagine they had our credit card details.

How about the cloth laundry bags in Hiltons? I may or may not have taken a few in my time.
