Not sure if it helps but I used my Aussie Plat Amex card to buy all my AS miles, no probs. at all.

Didnt work for me unfortunately. Its the card I have linked to my Pay Pal. I assume your purchase was before policy change.

I also had an email from Points.com

"We apologize for the inconvenience that this matter may have caused you. Please note that Alaska Airlines has advised that any Alaska Airlines members who reside outside of the US, Canada and Mexico are not eligible to purchase Alaska Airlines miles online. "

The wording there suggests there may be a way thats not "online" to buy!

From my reading, there are (quite tight) limitations on the ability to transfer miles, and there is also a cash cost. But that was only from a quick reading. Happy to be corrected.

wouldn't i just be able to use his card on my account?

worth a try at least, worst case is it gets declined

Won't be a problem using another card on your account. May just take a couple of extra days to post the points.

Didn't work for me using paypal. I will try a US card and see if it works.

Posted this on the other thread in cheap international travel but was wondering if anyone here had had success with using some else's US credit card.

As of past week NON USA, Canada & Mexico residents cannot purchase AS miles.

There is no info on AS site about this, very poor form.

Someone said before that they used their aust aussied AMEX PLAT and it worked? Can anyone confirm?

But when was that? See post above yours - which has applied since either 1st or 3rd of March.

Believe it was Dec. this AS deal dead, unless one has a US Direct Debit or regular CC etc..

OK, that was limewood, who has posted again above yours. Aussie cards of any flavor will not work now. I don't think we've tried "Aussie issued card with a US billing address" but unless you have one now, its pretty academic.

Its a dead parrot.

Anyone managed to ascertain availability with CX for this program? Im trying to book PER-HKG and not seeing anything...even up to March 2015, however I am using the alaska airlines website which sucks. Maybe I should use QFF.

I get this error:

We could not fulfill your request. This could be due to one or more of the following reasons:
- There are flights, but all award space is taken.
- There are no flights for the city pair entered.
- There are no flights operating on the specific day of the week entered.
- The routing requested may not be allowed.

Please change your search.

Error Code: -1580

The website clearly states for CX you have to call

Are there any companies similar to the now defunct 'Shop the States' that will give you a 'home' address in the US?

Once you have a US address, if you purchase a pre-paid VI or MC & load it with US funds would the 'BIN' numbers ie bank identification nbrs be recognused as belonging to US or Canada for the purposes of the exercise or would it need to be a 'proper' credit catd?
