I've had/got a couple of bookings at the CP as an IHG Platinum and find their upgrade 'system' to be quite odd. When we stayed last month, I noticed a few weeks out that the room had been upgraded from base room to deluxe balcony room. We check in and are told we've been upgraded. Get to the room...and no balcony. But still shows in booking confirmation so we chat to the staff and they sort it out. But they were incredibly confused as to how we'd been upgraded to a balcony room.

I have another booking for January and it's already been upgraded. But even more strangely, my address has been changed to that of the CP in Atlanta GA.

Doesn't happen with bookings at any other CP, only this one...anyone have any clues?

On my last stay there, my 2 night booking was for a "KING BED DELUXE BALCONY". On the day of my check-in I noted that there were still a lot of JUNIOR SUITES still available, which would be a one step upgrade. I found the CP Adelaide's upgrade policy which noted:

" Platinum Elite members receive all IHG Rewards Club benefits plus:
  • Priority check-in on guaranteed reservations
  • Complimentary room upgrades (subject to availability)
  • ..."
IHG Rewards | Crowne Plaza Adelaide

As I was handed over the room keys I asked "Have I perhaps received an upgrade"? The keys were taken back, some typing done and new keys coded. When given the new keys I was told "We have upgraded you to a Junior Suite, but just this once".

In Adelaide we just know all these strange things as "The Family"

Mmm very confusing, stayed at the CP a couple of times, I really don't feel they are very professional. On both occasions have not been upgraded as a platinum member. I would much rather stay at the IC

I thought they handled the situation quite well given their confusion.

I'm still baffled as to how my address has morphed to that of a CP in the US!
