New Domestic Amenity Kit

Hey Everyone,

I was luckily enough to get sent one of the new amenity kits used on the a330's by a friend who is cabin crew and wow... Not up to scratch at all.
I'm sure it is more than acceptable for a 3-4 hour Coast to Coast sector, although when comparing it to the older kits it is a MAJOR downgrade.

It's not anywhere near as nice as the previous kit.
I do however think that Amenity kits on a Domestic flight, even Coast to Coast are a bit of a gimmick.

What is the bag material like?

The fact is you have a kit. The alternative (or non-choice for a while) was to go without.

Gimmick or not, there seemed to be a fair uproar when they were removed from mainstream service. But I do agree with the opinion that they are mostly superfluous, except possibly for the overnight flights.

Of course. I know I sound like a Drama-Queen DYKWIA, But I have only ever flown the Coast-Coast Service once, so they really don't affect me. It's just a shame to have such a great kit diminished, despite how perhaps unnecessary it was.

The material is a bit mesh like.. Feels like a cheap kids pencil case.

Well it obviously isn't the see-through mesh which many other carriers are tending to use for their International Business class kits (e.g. NH, UA). But I take that it is a soft mesh, very thin-sheet like material.

It'll be funny to see people who regularly fly coast to coast in J get a collection of these (although admittedly many will simply leave them behind, sometimes still in the packaging without touching it at all).

Those "pencil cases" are sometimes useful for carrying little trinkets, e.g. earbud headphones, spools of sewing thread, USB flash disks, keys & little miscellanea before going through security screening, old boarding passes, etc... though since a toothpick is likely to pierce the casing, I suppose it may be of little use.

Still, you wanted an amenity kit on coast to coast, you have an amenity kit!

I still remember the first amenity kits by Bvlgari. The case was actually smaller than this one and slightly less practical (because it was a flimsy fold-over magnetic type rather than a zip). Nevertheless, even though it was plain black with a badge, it somehow exuded more style and was a more sturdy casing than this one (appears to be).
