Lucky from OMAAT has just written an article about putting middle names in booking airline ticket. His conclusion is that there is no need and in my experience with many airlines, I never put my middle names and never had problem with QF, VA, JQ, SQ, JL, NH, OZ, TG, BR, BA and AC.

However, someone commented in Lucky's post that middle name is mandatory with CX booking. I have a CX booking coming up from AM redemption, as I didn't put my middle name in my AM account so the booking doesn't have my middle name. In your experiences, did anyone have problem with CX if you don't put your middle name (and your passport has middle name)?

I used to put my middle name in CX bookings then noticed that they were concatenating them together on my etickets - caused no end of trouble when trying to do an upgrade and they made me change my AM/MPC account to be firstname/middlename in the first name field!

>50 flights with CX booked via QFF... never had a middle name on any booking for the four of us.

None of my flights ... ever ... have had a middle name in the booking. Never been a problem for me

As a strict 2 namer, I've never realised there was this huge problem I've been avoiding my whole life

It's a bit of a pain in the backside for me as I'm one of those annoying individuals who is called by their middle name and has never been known by their first name.

To this day I still don't know why my Dad registered me the opposite way around :p

It's not a legal requirement nor airline requirement that you have your full name in the name field on a PNR, contrary to what a lot of travel agents may tell you.

However, it is a requirement to have the middle name in the API name field for countries that require it (US, Australia etc.). This is generally fixed at check in when they swipe your passport, so it's not a big deal if you can't do this on the airline's website (QF comes to mind).
