Just boarded in BNE and noticed the non-status queue had a walk through gate bizzo. I asked what it was and I was told it was a trial of a new self scan boarding pass system. It looked remarks fly a set of scales and I also noticed the BNE premium entry has not one, but two sets of large digital scales. I'm wondering if VA are planning to start proactively monitoring hand luggage limits!

Saw this just a few days ago. There was a very long line of people struggling with the self scan process. The older crowd were having an especially harder time using it.

Did you think it looked a lot like a weighbridge? Seems an awfully dramatic structure just for a scanner.

PS, if you are wondering about my spelling in the OP......it was auto correct/interpret on the iPhone. Honest!

I used this in BNE recently. I got to the gate and there was approx 15 people waiting in the priority line and nobody queuing for automatic boarding. It worked flawlessly with passbook - no different to holding your phone over the scanner that the staff members use.

This was the same machine QF was using on Gate 28 at the Common User, that has now moved to Gate 38 only.
