AA award AUS to USA Business availability Aug/Sep 2016

Hoping someone can help me with a check on availability for 3 x Business class return from Brisbane to LAX/JFK in Aug/Sep 2016. Happy to try alternate routings if available without spending on two awards each way.... just getting no luck with online searching and phone reservations for the dates i've tried so far.... really limited seats on this route! i am flexible on the dates as this is a family holiday and the little one isnt in school yet.

This is an extremely tough redemption. It is difficult to find even 1 award seat in business class on direct trans-Pacific flights, let alone 3.

American have many partner airlines that could provide indirect routings with available seats. Air Tahiti Nui via Auckland and Papeete often has up to 2 business class award seats available. You will need to call AA to book these/check for availability. Fiji Airways via Nadi is also a possibility.

Although it would obviously be preferable not to have to split awards, flying Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong or Japan Airlines via Tokyo may work out. Hawaiian Airlines via HNL is another possibility.

Also, I'm not sure if BNE-AUH-JFK on Etihad is an allowable routing but it might be worth checking out as EY is an AA partner. Qatar Airways is also a oneworld partner.

If you cannot find any seats at all, then maybe look at buying Jetstar Business class tickets to Honolulu, then redeeming AA miles for F seats from HNL to JFK (or wherever your final destination in the US is).

thanks Matt..... looking at the cathay option. if im going to be spending two awards, might as well spend a few days in HK while im at it!

I can see quite a few dates in August next year where there are 3 business class seats on Cathay from BNE-HKG and return. Likewise with the HKG-JFK flights.

These flights won't appear on the American website. You'll need to call AA to book, though they should waive the phone booking fee as this can't be done online. One final thing to keep in mind is that you'll only be able to book 331 days out with AAdvantage - so that means only up to around the end of August at this stage. I realise that it will be a bit more expensive this way, but at least you should be able to actually find the seats. Plus, Cathay is a good airline. Good luck!

We were looking for 2 x J QF or AA award to USA return Aug/Sept too, found 2 QF J out of DFW that suited us fine but getting over no way, we booked JQ award J (PE) bulkhead award seats BNE/HNL instead and intend to go to SEA from there, rather than go the long way round via HKG.
