I think I have enough status credits to gift to my daughter who is presently silver to take her up to gold.

The query is to the timing of when to do it.

Her review date is April 23 at which time should would most likely revert back to red. Should I be waiting until after her review date to gift the status or does it not matter when?

You cant "gift" status credits, unless you are talking about family pooling, which must be done before the SC are earned. Or do you mean gifting gold status, ie "partner gold"?

Maybe I didn't make it all that clear but what I was inquiring about was using my status credits to gift her gold status and how the timing of the gifting works in relation to her review date.

So to gift Companion Gold with VA you need 500 SCs above the WP qualification (1300 SCs). I assume that's what you're talking about. From the VA website, she would be gold for 12 months from when it is applied, so it doesn't matter when you gift it. Essentially it resets her review date.

23.3.6 A Companion Gold Membership or Companion Platinum Membership is valid for a period of 12 months from the date of the upgrade to Companion Gold Membership or Companion Platinum Membership. At the conclusion of the 12 month period, if the companion Member has not been nominated for Companion Gold Membership or Companion Platinum Membership for a further 12 months, their Membership Level will be assessed on their achievement of the required number of Status Credits and Eligible Sectors flown in accordance with clause 21.1.4.

You have 12 months from qualification to arrange the gift, which is then valid for 12 months, so pick the time to maximise the benefit.

Thanks, that answers my question in that gifting companion gold to my daughter is not affected by her current review date and will last 12 months essentially resetting her review date to the date the gifted gold membership is applied.

That's correct – the date you gift it to her will become her new renewal date too, so her existing date is irrelevant.

I would advise leaving it as late as possible, ideally up until just before your daughter's next flight. It's applied to the account immediately while on the phone, so you could do it the day before the flight.

As said, her new SG status will have 12 months in it so that's the best way to maximise it. No point gifting her gold right now if she won't be flying for another, say, two months..

Do I need to gift her SG before my own review date?
