Today I tried to connect a new property to Lumo Energy here in Sydney and was told Lumo has been bought by another company and they have decided to retire Lumo in NSW. They are no longer signing up new customers and existing customers will be transferred to Red Energy shortly. That means no more sign up bonus and no more Velocity points in NSW anymore. I have quite enjoyed Lumo over the years with their Velocity offer and no credit card surcharges even on Amex. What a shame!

Business accounts are not affected yet.

Does that mean current customers will stop getting points/not grandfathered in?

Unless Red Energy comes up with a Velocity plan in the near future, yes, all Lumo customers will be transferred to Red which does not offer Velocity points. They couldn't tell me when the switch would take place only soon.

Well that sucks.

Time to read the fine print and see if we can tell them we're going elsewhere because they moved the goal posts.

thanks,

Interesting to hear your positive experience with Lumo. Been thinking of switching over from AGL here in VIC, and finally going to do it.

Hopefully it remains the same here!

I am with Lumo in SA, if Red Energy gets a toe hold in NSW, it could be that they one day might want to expand.
Thanks for the info OP, now I know if I hear Red expanding, I will be moving my electricity account out from Lumo.
