The Operational Upgrade Thread

Ahha!. The Armenians and Greeks have been close cousins throughout history and especially cross migration mainly A to G. Additionally they were both at the receiving end of the Ottoman genocide of the 1915.

Perhaps CSM was looking for a validation to "award" an op-up. Maybe in his eyes because of your shared heritage you were a "nice person".

Indeed or Johnny K may have had a higher PCV than 6D.

Also he hadn't yet boarded so to all other pax it just looks like a J class pax (receiver of onboard upgrade) was the last pax on vs already being seated in 4D then moved up front.

That way other pax in whY don't see a whY pax moved into J and say "why is he so special" or "why don't they movd me into J" which can open up a can of worms.

I thought about that. To me it felt like he had already decided before I boarded but wanted to confirm it with me first. Interesting op-up and one you don't experience very often on a flight that is not full.

QFF Plat and lifetime gold probably has a good effect as well!!

6D was also a WP as she was in J Lounge with a Y ticket. Of course no info about lifetime status

Yes both JK & 6D WP however all things aren't necessarily equal and I was suggesting that JK may have had a higher PCV.

It could just have been that it was logistically easier for the CSM to approach JK in the aerobridge before he boarded the flight and direct him straight to 3D.

Not complaining but I would have thought the easiest solution would have been to move 6D to 4C.

Maybe it would be simpler to avoid musical chairs but OZBB suggestion does make sense. CSM has made 6D and 4D happier and given AFF a hint of the decision making process in an Opup scenario. Additionally the other Y pax would have no inkling, and did not give too much to 6D in order to resolve an "issue"

On Friday I ill take my 100th oneworld flight (93 of them international) since January 2015. Not one upgrade. What am i doing wrong???

93 international in 15 months? WOW!

Maybe a name change? Teamprosciuttopanini ? Sounds more deserving, right? Just kidding ;)

To be honest, no idea, perhaps others could help out. Although, I do believe the op-up rate is very low. Maybe you are travelling regularly on a premium route?

I have been flying QANTAS [regularly] for many years. I have had consistent high tier status since moving more business to QFF when I joined AFF (and adopting a split strategy with AA).

I have never had an op-up on either QANTAS (or Emirates when my QF FFN has been in the booking). I have been on flights where others have been upgraded, so I assume QANTAS doesn't think I am important enough, or my PCV is too low.

That said - the published and unpublished benefits of high QFF status (v. high OW status) have been worthwhile for me given several hundred domestic segments on QF within Australia since 2009.

Hi all- I've done a bit of a search but can't seem to get a clear indication on how QF would work out one's PCV- I'm assuming it's more than FF status.
Thanks in advance

Sure, I understand that. Just wondering what else besides CL/current tier would count towards this PCV. For example, where does lifetime gold figure into the scheme?
Thanks

I'd imagine PCV would be something like

• total lifetime revenue +
• last 12 months activity +
• some kind of arbitrary 'influence' ranking that takes into account how much travel spend they have control over

I actually doubt status plays that big of a role, but it could – I'm totally speculating.

Would love for someone in the industry to chime in here. This also really interests me.

Don't think you'll get too much information on how it is calculated.

I would think $spend, number of flights and lifetime loyalty would play some part in the calculation.

This doesn't happen often (not to me anyway), three QF op-ups in one week:

BNE-MEL op-up when OLCI the day before.

SYD-HKG op-up when checked in at airport.

HKG-SYD no op-up at check-in, nothing when scanned the BP in lounge nor at the gate. Showed my BP when boarded the plane, CSM takes it, erases the original seat number and says: "sorry Mr. B you'll have to turn left this time". Lol

Thanks Qantas!
