The Operational Upgrade Thread

A handwritten one carries as much weight as a handwritten IOU
I agree as much value as a written I O U. Which in fact canactually be enforced.
A representative of corporation I.e. The CSM can make a hand written commitment. The crew would no doubt honour it.

Geez and they could not give you a new boarding pass. A handwritten one carries as much weight as a handwritten IOU

Any seat number on a boarding pass - hand written or printed - probably has the same weight given just about all airline contracts of carriage don't guarantee a specific seat and provide the passenger can be moved at any time for safety or operational reasons.

I'm not sure computer printing has much more weight than anything else?

Handwritten seat numbers over crossed out printed ones aren't that uncommon. I've had half a dozen or so of them over the years.

Same thing happened to me on an EY flight from AUH-CDG. I got the magic ding at the gate and the gate agent hand wrote the new seat number on the BP. Had no issues on the plane.

A double op-up of sorts.. firstly on a short OSL-LHR BA flight to LHR, with 3 family members in Club Europe (the only ones), myself and partner were asked discreetly if we would like to join them we would be welcome to which we of course obliged, standard intra-Europe J with just a middle seat blocked, but we were offered champagne which I thought was a fantastic gesture.

The connecting flight we were then both upgraded from PE to J on CX LHR-HKG at the gate, two seats next to each other at the front of the cabin next to someone who looked familiar.. who later turned out to be Elle McPherson.

No luck for the flight a few days later to Australia, but can't complain, especially as the one-way fare was ~$1300.

Feb 11th DEN-PHX an OMG O'clock flight with AA was Op-Up from Y-F.
Feb 14th Supposed to fly LAX-LGA via 2 connecting cities. Flight Delayed & canceled at LAX, so managed to call up AA and got direct flight AA34 LAX-JFK 8 hours later A312 Transcon plane in F & mate got J. We just slept the whole way through.

The trans con A321 are a real nice way to fly.

Are you going to try and get Status credits for original routing (if the OR SC is > direct SC)

OSCR has been submitted and has been credited. QF minus the 120SC direct LAX-JFK as we netted just under 200SC for our original routing.

MEL-KUL on MH. Got beeps and the gate. +1 and I went from discount Y to J presumably on the credence of our QF SG, no longer being Enrich members. Was a very pleasant surprise, first time in J on MH, fantastic service and got to try their signature satay :)

As most of you know, I have NEVER been upgraded on QANTAS (until the other week). I was actually getting ready to write the "QF P1 & LTG and never had an op-up" thread when I hit LTG shortly.

But alas, now that thread won't come to pass.

I was flying DRW-SYD-MEL connecting to QF493 on one of those horrible weather days during school holidays. Numerous SYD-MEL services were cancelled and consolidated. I took a quick look at EF during the transfer and noticed that the flight was completely full. Got to the gate with my mobile BP for 4C, scanned and given a boarding receipt for 3C. No mention of changed seat whatsoever until I mentioned it to the FA boarding pax.

Good little flight. They served a duck breast with potatoes, carrots, etc which was phenomenal. One of the best plane meals I have had in a long time, and certainly the best meal I have had on a domestic 737 service. Washed down with the excellent Woodlands Cab Merlot.

Thanks QF, now how long do I need to wait until the next one?

Our one and only operational upgrade on QI was 8 years ago. Dont hold your breath! (EK - several in 2 years).

It seems op ups are often given without fanfare or comment by boarding staff.
If given without comment then I would also refrain from saying anything. It's what I call the "OpUp etiquette"

QF codeshare on EK flight has better opportunities. July 17 My boarding pass beeped at gate. New boarding pass exchanged without comment.
To 1A from J cabin... Several opups issued to F as there were about 3 other pax taking photos of the F cabin and bathroom.....-like kids in a candy shop. Flight EK404 overbooked.

Id rather put on an air of familiarity with F travel with a twist of classy nonchalance

Unfortunately my FF activity statement recorded it as "business first upgrade"

Been with QF a yr and upgraded Y to J domestic 737. Was Sydney's fog day recently so I figured they'd squished a few extra pax onto my flight and upgraded some people. Only an hr and a bit but was still appreciated. I had just sent them a nice email so was wondering if that had anything to do with it but suspect it was weather related. I've tried QF J and Y TT and now domestic so feel QF complete now:)

So your one and only opt up was SYD>MEL?

I would have said no to the upgrade so you get your "QF P1 & LTG and never had an op-up" thread :)

Have an EK flight KUL-MEL in 2 weeks. According to your logic I should expect an upgrade as EK upgrades all Qantas Platinums?
