Fly Forward scam

The Sydney staff can be pretty unfriendly at times-one time my gold membership had expired by one week. The lady at the priority entry cut my card in half and told me I had to walk around to the 'normal' lounge entry lol

I wouldn't be using a queue I am not entitled to, even a week out, but I would be livid if someone cut up my card, especially with the Qantas Cash facility on the reverse and how that would leave me cut off from my funds.

In my wallet I have a Qantas Platinum card that expired May 2015 and Virgin Gold card that expired 02 September 2014. Both are valid today as the status is still the same. The staff member can simply check me in and return the card to me. Never had an issue although some have commented that card has expired and that's it.

Have you considered adding the new card to your wallet that they undoubtedly sent out?

That would mean that I would have to be organised and open every single letter I receive in Sydney. Time is limited.

Your Velocity card has a Qantas Cash facility on the other side?

Mine doesn't ;)

Place Velocity card back to back with QantasFF card, insert into wallet in the same section, place into tumble dryer (washing machine/dyer preferred as they get hotter) for 3 hours. Remove from dryer and lightly iron on each side quickly.
The two cards fuse together and there you have it!

If I turn up up a few hours early when requesting a fly ahead I usually say something like "no worries if not, I'll just have site here and have some drinks and do some work until my flight". I usually get on. Not sure if it's good service or the notion that 4hrs of unfettered free booze and free food could be far more expensive/problematic than just getting me on the next flight!

Flying home to Canberra BUSINESS CLASS tonight through Sydney, tried to catch an earlier flight as I there was a 2 hour wait and was flatly rejected ..... never have this issue through Melbourne. NOT HAPPY

SYD - BNE. Booked on a 2pm flight saver fare. Arrived at VA lounge at 8.15am and got on the 9am flight.

Any reason given Stitchit?

Pretty strange.. Are you a Gold or WP ? Did you have luggage? What was the reason for the flat rejection? Granted, can understand why you'd be annoyed.

I'd imagine it would be more difficult to fly ahead in J due to catering considerations and a more limited available seat selection.

My understanding is that catering isn't guaranteed if you fly forward, in which case that isn't really a reason to deny the request.

That makes sense.

A full flight could then be a reason, last time I flew CBR-SYD the J cabin was full. I think there are only 3 flights after ~2:30pm, so it wouldn't surprise me if you had to wait 2 hours for the next flight.

Either way, I wouldn't rely on this benefit if it's going to make you unhappy when it doesn't turn out, just appreciate the convenience of it when it does work out.

Hi Guys,
I am Gold with this being the flight to take me to Platinum, I had just taken myself and 6 family members to Perth all on Virgin for my youngest wedding. I am an overly loyal Virgin flyer ... not sure why now as I could have flown on the direct Perth Canberra flight and saved myself this rubbish. I know when they book connections out of Perth to Canberra they leave themselves a bit of room in case of the prevailing winds. Never had this issue before as I usually fly through Melbourne, on arriving in Sydney I checked with the Canberra Flight desk and girls there said there should not be an issue but as they were new and did not know the proceedure for me to check in the lounge. Even the front desk at the lounge could not see an issue but the service desk was a completely different matter! I explained I was flying on a business ticket and that I was a Gold member, she asked if I had bags and I said yes and she stated that this was not allowed. No discussion, no sorry, no I we are really busy nothing. Very abrupt I have made a complaint on the Virgin Facebook page on the matter!

I don't mean to be rude, but what did you complain about? That they wouldn't go outside their T&C for you? (Assuming your J ticket was a saver, not flexi?)

Fly ahead terms clearly say that it is not available if travelling with checked luggage. Maybe you might have a reasonable expectation of a flight change based on being a business fare. (ignoring that is not a fly ahead issue) But again that requires someone to go and change your checked luggage. I assume that is also against the terms and conditions, but don't know for sure.

In terms of fly ahead this is not an issue related to the J ticket.
