Just got an email about this:

  • Book and register for the promotion between 01 April - 30 April 2016
  • Travel between 1 May - 31 October 2016^
  • Book online for a bonus of 1,000 Asia Miles
Not bad... pretty lucrative at the right price!

Which airline to book double miles with?

Qantas: SYD-LHR return in biz: earns ~40,000 QF points (30% of the way for SYD-HKG return biz class on QF, or ~20% same flight on CX)
Cathay: SYD-LHR return in biz: earns ~60,000 Asia Miles (80% of the way for SYD-HKG return biz class on CX *OR* QF + SUPER LOW taxes)

Does CX double all the miles? Just looking at DXB-MEL-BNE and back in J. WP a bit over 50,000 base miles with the status bonus, only 31000 bonus miles though. But with a handy haul of SCs to boot, I'm up for it :-)

Alas the double miles are only available on flights booked exAustralia. If you have priced tickets in SE Asia (though not in HKG) the prices are such that double miles hardly makes up for the Australian "premium" Much more efficient economically to have flights originating elsewhere with round trips to Australia.

Though I am open for examples to prove me wrong from Perth...

Happy wandering
