I had to change a VA flexi flight until the next day. The original booking was via a travel agent and so I couldn't do it myself and the agent said there was a fare difference (which I accepted) of $154.30 + their commission of $24.20.

Here's the "pending transactions" currently showing on my AMEX......

If the "pending" amounts are withdrawn, I'll post it here as well, but in the meantime it may be wise to keep an eye on your VA charges.

Wow.

That's pretty poor if the charges stick. Not even good in the first instance.

I'm hoping they don't ever make it to a transaction, but I just thought I'd post up a warning for everyone as I'm 99.9% sure they got me with this rubbish billing when it was all the rage a few years back.

i have had this before and the extra drop off and don't make it to transactions

Always prudent to monitor for about 2 or 3 business days in case

They're all still there this morning...but still in the pending area so I hope you are right. It makes me wonder how it happens at all. I've never seen this happen before with any other retailer, so why VA? The financial side of it has not bothered me, but for people who a little bit cash strapped, do those "pending" amounts restrict their ability to access their full credit limit, pehaps putting them in a difficult situation?

For a period a couple of years ago, QF would always double charge a certain type of booking. I knew it would happen and would therefore need to allow for the double authorisation on my card for seven days. This could hit $2k is some instances.

Woolworths Money also does it to direct issued Amex cards when you buy gift cards online. Amex themselves have confirmed to me it's a bug.

It's odd. The pending transactions are still there but have not progressed despite others in the pending area being processed yesterday (I guess AMEX doesn't honour ANZAC day). I think we must all be wearying as most of the posts here seem to be ones of resigned acceptance? Why is it considered acceptable for a company to "freeze" someones access to their cash just because they can't be bothered to fix a bug. As I said before, many people live day to day and having funds they may have been relying on frozen for perhaps weeks, is not acceptable (IMHO).

I have found it is happening regularly with one of suppliers that we pay via CC. The problem I have is it is $30k to $40k at a time and my card always goes over limit. It is a problem with the CC provider and not our supplier as a day or 2 later the second transaction drops off. In this case it is Citibank who is the card issuer.

From what we have gathered the problem occurs when our suppliers rings up for authorisation it is allocated against my CC then when their bank process's it, it ends up on my card again.

I have never been charged any over fees.

I have just noticed this with Holiday Inn in Bangkok, preauthorisation goes onto my AMEX and then at checkout they process another transaction. Effectively 2 x the stay and takes around 7 days for authorisation to dop off and funds to be released back to card. Only ever at this hotel, no other IHG that I've stayed at, kind of annoying

OK, I checked my AMEX account this afternoon and there are no pending transactions. Curiously, none of the VA charges appear in the real transaction list either despite all the previous "pending" items progressing through OK. I'm sure someone thinks all this makes sense, an accountant or a solicitor perhaps (neither of whom rate highly in my skewed estimation....sorry guys), but this seems to me to be the next best thing to incompetence. (and I do not level that purely at VA.....I'm tending to think it may not be of their making)
