Whilst it may only be of little consolation to the family and friends of those involved, at least it has disappeared in a high traffic/high population area, so there is every chance the aircraft/crash site will be located.

The Mediterranean isn't that big and it had made it into Egyptian airspace, they will locate in a few hours max.

Airline safety network have just tweeted Egyptair have "confirmed" counts as 56 pax, 7 crew, 3 security personnel.

QF1 is taxiing for its 2nd leg. I wonder how this incident factors into any security assessment of and construction of its flightpath even though its usual flightpath is nowhere near this region.

This has been changed by FA. Upthread I posted FA calling this a B738 flight.

MS confirms this as a 2003 built A320 (Rego SU-GCC)

While this has been done now, reporting the first (or any) post alerts moderators much more effectively than a comment that can be overlooked.

CNN said there was no special cargo, yet they had 3 security personnel? Is that a normal number? I know some flights have air marshals, but I would imagine 3 is a high number for such a small plane.
