Hello everyone,
We are currently considering a Canal and South America cruise, which departs from Fort Lauderdale Florida on 9th December this year and arrives in Chile on 24th December, we live in Brisbane and I am wondering what would be the best flight options for us if we go ahead ? The cruise is a great price but the flight costs might place it out of the budget. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am a loyal customer of Qantas but willing to consider any other options.

My only suggestion is that you arrive in Florida at least the day before getting on the ship. Cuts down the stresses of a late/delayed/cancelled flight. The cruise terminal at Fort Lauderdale is HUGE.

Will definitely be doing that if we go ahead, I was on a flight to Miami from Brisbane one time that was turned around shortly after take off, wasnt a big deal for me, stayed overnight in the city, and got the plane the next day, but some passengers were very stressed as they needed to be at a port in USA to board their cruise for their daughter's wedding.

Just a super quick search on Google Flights....

1 way 8th December BNE-SYD-LAX-MIA, around $1457 on QF/AA in Y

return

1 way 24th December SCL-AKL-BNE, around $1850 on LAN/QF in Y

What's your budget? I'm sure some tweaking you might do a little better, but it is getting into peak time.

Thanks for doing that for me, flights are quite expensive ! , we are flexible with return dates so will look into some tweaking, I wonder if there are any around the world fares that would cover this ?

There are, but your best bet may be a return trip with a small separate sector in between.
I.e. X-MIA return, then fly back to MIA on a different one way ticket. Should be able to do this for easily under $2k but it is more mucking around.

Perhaps a One World RTW, but I think there is also a "Circle the Pacific" promo/fare? Might be worth looking into. I don't know much about it TBH.

With prices I posted, I'm sure a TA or QF could arrange them onto the same PNR and reduce the $$ somewhat, along the lines of what Cynicor mentioned.

Thanks for the imput, I'm a bit of a novice , but I dont mind mucking around, being from Yorkshire lol

Presumedly you finish in Valparaiso? So a shuttle service will be available to Santiago Airport. As for Fort Lauderdale, you can look at options into Miami to cut costs if flying it Fort Lauderdale is too expensive. Consider searching return to Los Angeles and then search for single flights LAX to Fort Lauderdale or Miami for joining, then Santiago to LAX to get you where you want to be. That might be cheaper.
Also look at returns Santiago and returns Miami, then figure out a positioning flight at either end as required. Some of these might save you money, but obviously will involve hotels and a bit of a risk in case you miss a connection.

Oh and I'm a Yorkshireman too, according to my wife I'm so tight I squeak when I walk, so saving money is always on the agenda.

:shock: :shock: :shock:

On our last cruise that we did Nassau to Guayaquil, so we flew into Dallas , then had an extra ticket to Miami and Nassau, after the cruise we flew Guayaquil to Miami then Dallas and picked up our original tickets.
