I somehow booked Hong Kong hotel twice for the same night. The rate is Advanced Purchase Rate. The rate is supposed to be non refundable and the credit card charged sometime after booking and before arrival.

The credit card has not been charged yet. What are the chances they will not notice if I cancel?

Also it would appear I can change the reservation to another date. At this stage I think it is worth the risk to try and change the reservation to another date. It may stick.

I can try emailing the hotel but there is no guarantee they will cancel the reservation without taking the 1 night deposit.

Anyone have any recent experience changing an advance purchase rate?

I would contact them direct, as a Plat one would think that they will cancel a duplicated booking for you. They will notice if you do anything online as all "changes, transactions" etc does show up on there computers

The system has allowed me to change the reservation to another date and I have received a confirmation of the change.

I would watch that VERY closely !!!

I made an 'advanced' booking for IC Fiji earlier this year.

Circumstances changed a bit, and I wanted to cancel.

I emailed them ( Fiji ), and got a 'standard' reply of 'the rules', but was asked if I still wanted to cancel and re-book another date.

I asked the guy on the phone, does that mean I won't be charged the one night fee for the cancelled booking. "It should be alright". I said, I'll think about it.

I waited for a few days, and rang back again, to get a 'second opinion' ....

This time, I was told NO ... you can't not cancel without the 'one night fee' ( which was going to be over $1,000. )

Thus, I had to change my plans back again, as I wasn't going to pay this.

So, what I think happens, is they will be non-committing over the phone, and maybe you will get a 'yes' ....
but you still run THE RISK of getting you CC billed later ...

Looks like I have only received a reminder for 1 booking not the booking I have changed to September.
