Is it possible to use points for a longhaul flight one shorter sector in economy and longer sector in Business?
Also if we want to fly to Europe June/ 2017 when should we try to book either using points and/or credit card
thank you

Belated welcome to AFF pyne.

Those questions vary by airline and FF program.

With Qantas you should be able to book mixed classes on an award but you could also have separate bookings. You should have already tried to book the outbound sector at pretty much the time it becomes available which is about now.

Airlines such as TG and SQ will have better availability.

As JohnK says, it is possible. In fact just about all airlines will do it, it just depends how they construct 'payment'. Some airlines will charge the highest class of service on any sector for the whole ticket - so you might pay business class the whole way even though you fly economy for part of it. Other airlines will charge you the lowest price if that involves one award for the short sector and another for the business class sector.

Do you have a particular airline FF program in mind? We can then advise how they will charge for it.

I think you'll find the challenge will be finding the award seats and booking them. What sectors are you looking at and for how many people?

Which airline's frequent flyer points will you be using and which credit cards?
