One of my adult children has asked me to accompany them on a flight to Singapore with Scoot. Not normally a low cost carrier flyer myself, I am looking at flying (& shouting them the difference) a Scoot Biz Class Seat if I am to go with them.
The return journey to the Gold Coast entails an overnight flight of about 8 hours. Therefore I would like to have the comfort of a lie flat seat or bed.
Although I very much doubt if it would be up to the standard of Cathay or Qantas Business.What is Scoot offering in terms of comfort & service ?

Have any of my Aust FF members flown Biz with Scoot and what was it like ?

There several reviews of scoot biz on the net - google 'scoot biz trip report' (or any number of variations) and you'll see. It is more comfortable than standard economy, but only a reclining seat. Service and amenities are basic, a bottle of water is $4 (even in 'business class') and passengers are not permitted to drink their own food or beverages they have brought with them on board. I have an old inflight cafe menu which states tap water will be offered free of charge, but the print was tiny (6 font), and doesn't appear in any of the latest menu PDFs.

As per the website already linked scoot biz includes a meal and: Get a welcome drink and one additional alcoholic beverage

At $4 a bottle for water this could discourage passengers drinking, and that's a potential health risk on a flight. Pax with diabetes or medical conditions are also potentially in a bad position. Not sure how Scoot manages this.

A friend of mine flew the overnight SIN-OOL flight in ScootBiz and described the seat as "basically a coughpy premium economy seat". They didn't think it was worth the price.

Aparently In Scoot Biz they just give pax one free Alcoholic drink and you have to watch entertainment on your own device.
Even JQ are better than that !

Might be worthwhile noting that I did not include any mention of a $4 bottle of water when quoting your post. Personally I think it is excellent that Scoot don't allow passengers to drink their own food.
Tap water is available isn't it? anyone with medical conditions who didn't accept tap water would be irresponsible.

Yes i picked that up. My original post should have read 'consume' [their own food and drink].

In practice, Scoot don't seem to enforce anything relating to consuming own food and drink. At SIN, there is usually a huge queue at the water fountains at the gate (post security) with people filling up various sized bottles/drink containers with drinking water immediately prior to boarding.

As for food, on my only Scoot flight to date, I took a range of snacks on board in my backpack, and had them, and there were no issues, although granted wasn't a pile of steaming curry in wrapped up in brown paper, I am sure if people started doing that sort of thing they might be stricter.

having flown both JQ and Scoot "Business" recently I would conclude that both are a premium economy standard with Scoot providing the better seat & cabin.

Others have highlighted the main differences in Scoot's offering (namely lack of a free bar and entertainment) neither of which are a concern to me on an overnight flight.

I found the Scootbiz seat more that adequate to snooze on a redeye and the crew were well trained at delivering a quick supper service that was pretty tasty (no better than Premium economy food though).

Reading the Scoot website under 'special meals' it says pax with medical requirements can bring their own snacks. So I guess that's easily sorted

Scoot had a recent promo of $399 to Bangkok in Scoot biz. I declined because I thought I can't even get a glass of water

I think the question is more "what's better Scoot Biz or SQ Y"? Very roughly, they're both about the same price.

I'm going to guess Scoot Biz for the seat. I'm not fussed about service etc and I always take my own ipad anyway. Rarely watch IFE.
SQ's prices for me, almost price it entirely out of my travel plans. I fly east I go NZ because I can't be bothered doubling back to Oz (and there's perks). To fly West there's the ME3 with some really good pricing. I like SIN as a base but that Scoot pricing is just too good to ignore and I would not pay for SQ Y just because of the brand label. I have seen Scoot Biz prices > $1,000 so you do have to get in early.

Have a trip next year and looking at working Scoot Biz into the equation to check it out as I think its going to become my main Air NZ competitor to Asia. There's another 4 flights to NZ after Scoot lands in Syd so should be easy enough to make one of those flights home at least. Maybe rent a car and get out to the beaches or train it somewhere and stash luggage for the layover.
