Hello wise people,

Hoping for some advice. We have a J class flight from Shanghai to Singapore. Same ticket - Dragon to Hong Kong then CX to Singapore.

Q1. Same terminal but only 55 mins transit time - is this enough time to transfer? What is Dragon reliability like?

Q2. Because it is J class if we arrived early in Shanghai would Dragon put us on early flight if any free seats

Last time i left shanghai for HKG they put me on the flight leaving an hour earlier given it hadnt closed. Then sat in the plane for over an hour and still arrived after the scheduled arrival of my originally booked flight. I wouldnt be doing it if the CX to Sin is last flight of the day.

Normally, 55 mins is plenty of time. BUT there is always the chance that the SHA flight will be delayed (mainland flights notorious for ATC delays!)

Being pedantic, but the code is PVG.

To take the pedantry to another level KA does have at least one flight from SHA to HKG. Which has got me thinking, because PVG is a pain for me. :)

haha i was thinking about the generic code for shanghai (like LON, TYO) but i did not know what it was.. then i remembered SHA (hongqiao) somewhere lol

I don't want to add to your stress but my experience PVG to almost anywhere, unless very early in the morning, will be delayed / sit on the tarmac / slowed in flight.
If you can get or offered an earlier flight that has arrived (at PVG) I would take it.

55 minutes in HKG same terminal is fine :-|

As andyzx points out, 55 mins is usually plenty of time at HKG. Maybe not to use the lounge, but to get from gate to gate and be there 30 mins prior to departure it's fine.

back to your PVG flight... if you're leaving anytime after mid-morning there's probably little chance you'll make the connection. However, if the flight is late but you could still possibly make the connection Cathay ground staff will meet your incoming flight and escort you to the new gate. Otherwise someone will either meet you with the new flight details, or you go to the transfer desk. Flights before midday are usually ok unless there's bad weather.

KA will usually put you on an earlier flight in Shanghai subject to availability. Ask at check-in.
