Flying BNE-CNS-HKG/HKG-MAD (separate PNR's) in J with about a 4hr connection in HKG.

This is booked using QF points on the QF website.

QF have 'linked' my PNR's but said checking through luggage is at the discretion of Airport agents in BNE on the day.

Anyone had experience with this? Is it normally an issue?

Cathay will check through luggage on their own flights. By discretion of airport agent what they really mean is if the agent can be bothered to do their job or not. In saying that, unhelpful agents are rare.

Thanks for the reply - yes, out of Australia I have had only pleasant experiences.

Both flights are CX metal and flight numbers so hoping for the best as there is a LOT of luggage.

What is CX Metal? Apologies .... but havent seen this before.

CX Metal: just means it is a CX aircraft, even though it might be a different flight number on a codeshare.

This will be fine, CX policy is to through check and issue boarding passes where it is the operating carrier on both flights. See below from cxagents.com https://www.cxagents.com/cxa/gc/en_HK/ln2

[h=1]Separate Ticket Policy - Revised Through Check in Handling[/h]With effect from 01 Jun 2016, all oneworld carriers have agreed that through* check-in will apply ONLY to passengers travelling on an oneworld itinerary ticketed on a single ticket or where segments are ticketed separately but in the same PNR record.

*=Through services are defined as the customer and their baggage being through checked to their final destinations. To align with the change, disruption policy will also be revised to exclude protection for passengers holding separate tickets that is not booked under the same PNR.
