hi all,

I've recently come into a few points which should put me in a position to transfer to Krisflyer and redeem for the SQ RTW fare (240K Krisflyer, approx 320K Velocity)

I am wondering if it's worth it though?

I am booking flights for a RTW trip in May 2018. BNE -> LAX -> IAD -> LHR -> wherever e.g. SIN (2 night stopover for bub + wife) -> BNE.

I already have BNE -> LAX J booked, so i don't need to worry about availability for that leg (but i can cancel it). And LHR -> BNE SQ/EY J availability is pretty good. I haven't booked LAX -> IAD -> LHR yet, so will need to look at Delta / Virgin Atlantic availability + points cost .

Is there any reason I should look at transferring to Krisflyer and booking a RTW *A? I'm WP with VA, and no status with Krisflyer if that matters. I probably won't add any more stopovers (e.g. italy or greece) as we're a bit pressed for time.

I'm not entirely sure if I follow you - your existing BNE-LAX flights are presumably with VA, booked with Velocity points - right? To my knowledge, the *A RTW award cannot include flights operated by VA, so if you go with the transfer to KF and a *A RTW award, you would have to completely change your route/airlines.

In theory you could go from SYD or MEL to the US with UA, but I believe transpac J awards with UA are non existent, so in reality you would probably have to go to Asia on the way to the US. No idea about the prospects of getting premium award seats from LAX-IAD-LHR with either program - in the past I struggled to find award availability with DL through Velocity, but that was a while ago. You should be able to get from somewhere in Europe back to BNE in J with SQ, but not necessarily from LHR on the specific dates you want.

All things considered, I would say the KF option would require substantially fewer points, but whether you can make it work or not is another question. An advantage of the Velocity option is that you can piece things together and pay cash where required, if there is no award availability.
