Hey guys,

Didn't re qualify for plat this year or come close. My membership year finished two days ago and the website has now refreshed my status credits, moved the renewal date to 2019, but still lists me as platinum. Is this a system glitch or have I been comped? I can only dream :)

A little while is allowed for status credits to come in from flights on partner airlines. You’ll probably drop back to Gold in the next few days.

I was hoping I wouldn' have to do more back to back mel-cgks. First world problems huh

Not necessarily so. Last year I was comped WP with only half the required SC's. However, I had been WP for 5 or so years in a row and mostly comfortably, so YMMV

Well you'd be pretty fortunate to be comp'd it at this stage. These days they don't tend to comp for free but extract something of value e.g. some QFF points.

This is pretty much a FAQ.

If you were comped, which is rare these days, it would have been before 31JAN, and a pop up would have shown when you logged in.

99% likely this is the "status hangover" and by the end of the weekend the status will, sadly, reset.

Let us know how you get on though - good luck

Last time I was bumped down from Plat to Gold it was around the 10th of the month after year end. That was in 2016.

There seems to be a new thread like this every month or two.

... at the beginning of every month or so.

The QF web site has some poor coding (who would have thought?!) and shows an expiry year based based on the current date, your "month" and current on file status.

When status drops in a couple of days it will be more accurate.

For more, see here: For those who have been comped status

Very true, but I forgive them all - losing status HURTS :)

So I feel for those that suffer those excrutiating days where they cling to hope, and the posters on thsi thread give the best possible support - lowering that hope gently :)

As someone who was in a the same situation a few years ago, I sadly have to second the above comments - was unceremoniously booted down in status a few days later :(

I would be very happy to be corrected, but it would seem that QF now considers DSC promotions, as well as offers to pony up 100K+ FF miles for status retention, to be the new comps.

  • Well, I can note as a data-point, given the points raised above...
  • my comp retention of Gold popped up within 2-3 days of rollover date (during this past week) in a large banner at the TOP of the Welcome page.

Well it's happened to me. Very low SC count, hoping that 'three year average' rule would save me.

Anniversary at the end of February. By mid Jan, when I hadn't heard anything, I knew I was cooked, but held a sliver of hope.

Yesterday (3rd), I was still Plat. Today, gold :( First time non Plat in well over 10 years.

Will requal in a month or so for Plat, but that won't help me along the way ( although flying J will soften the blow a bit.)

Is there a number I can call where I can grovel for a status challenge, so I can have some S&P squid before I fly out?

You could ring up and ask I guess. It could be that they instead offer you to spend ~100k points to retain Platinum depending on how far short you were, or they may not offer anything.

If they can see your forward bookings that should help your case as it shows you are serious about flying QF.

10 years WP. That’s a bit rough not to comp you then. Or at least make an offer.

Hey @RooFlyer from vague memory were you flying F to Singapore at some point this year ?

If so, clearly you got a "stickler for the rules" at QF HQ who sent you off to Gold....

I was toying with a SQ points trip, to try their new First and maybe LH F to FRA. Was put on back-burner as I'm now doing a DONE4 in April.

I had a long time to get used to the idea of dropping down, and am trying to be phlegmatic about it, but I find my lower lip quivering occasionally when I think of the SYD F Lounge.

Well think of us poor Adelaideians who have to bunker down in the non J Qantas Pub and which is located before immigration . I would have thought passage into the CL lounge was appropriate but nada :)
