I picked up a little snippet this morning. The HH Apac execs are in town this week.

HH are about to sign on a property to return the Hilton brand to MEL. An existing property in the vicinity of King St.

There are also plans to have a Canopy/Curio/Tapestry (I can't remember which) brand in the city as well. This may be a new building.

Both property openings may be up to 2 years away.

I hope to get confirmation in the next week.

The vicinity of King St...not hard to deduce that one, especially with some googling. Very interesting news though!

Vicinity.. Intercontinental ?

I could see it fitting the Curio brand - style is similar to West Sydney
Stayed there when it first opened. Smallish rooms, but lift noise horrible.

Doesn't fit the Intercon mould

I stayed at the West Hotel Sydney (Curio Collection) two days ago and was told by one of the staff members that Melbourne would be getting two new Hilton family hotels - a Curio and a DT ;).

King St, many fine establishments on that street or so I am told. So up there with the best locations as is the current DT location. o_O

Yes it was on the cards for some time (think I’ve opened a thread about it earlier this year). Two new properties: Curio on King corner Flinders and Hilton somewhere on Bourke St if I’m not mistaken. Also another DT is planned to open later in the CBD.

I may have swapped the locations of the properties.

Hopefully the ink is dry tonight so I (or you if you are in town) may be able to firm up some details next week.

....on King corner Flinders ....

Whichever hotel it is I repeat that's a terrible location! Above the open-air The Deck bar (where, incidentally, I had my 21st). Loud loud loud. Certainly not a business or family location.

Hopefully it will be announced soon, roumers are going on for too long and we need an official confirmation for new Hilton(s) in Melbourne.

The current DT is not exactly in the most quiet location either but seems to be doing very well.

For the record I do agree with you. King St is one area I try my best to avoid, especially at night.

The building on the King and Flinders corner is that the apartment block on the Southern side. From recollection the other buildings on the on the corner is low rise pub (Spencer St side) and other grubby (low rise) on the Elizabeth St side. It has been about 18 months since I moved out of the city.

I think it's on the Eastern side.

For whatever it's worth, I assumed the IC to change brands, as that area around Rialto has had a huge amount of money poured in. With a hell of a lot more on the way in redevelopment. Including a new build that was rumoured as a possibility.
